Celebrities not living up to their reputations?

The death of John McCririck today made me think of the times I met him. Firstly as a very shy 12 year old standing in a scrum of rowdy men at a racetrack who were trying to get on TV with him. I was getting jostled around, and he told everyone to stop pushing and made his way over and had a chat and signed my racecard. I know he doesn't have a great reputation, but I met him a couple of other times at tracks in my early teens, and my overwhelming memory of him is of a very kind and friendly man.

Have you met any celebrities whose reputation was different to impression you had?

Thing is, celebrities (and royals) are human beings and make mistakes, feel grumpy sometimes, can do something wrong. It's best not to put people on pedestals because the fall is devastating - and don't the media love it, even the slightest faux pas.

It's better to just think someone seems really nice and be interested in them - like them - but not expect too much. Not make an icon out of them. No icon is untouchable!

I know you didn't make an icon out of John McCririck by the way. Very glad you found him congenial, it's good to hear. He was certainly popular amongst the horse racing crowd and a bit of a character to boot.

I found him to be a raging perv when he commented on my friends breasts to her when we saw him at the races once
