Fuck me, a fox just walked in my back door & attacked my cat!!

I leapt up & screamed at it & it ran off. My poor cat is SO stressed with these bloody foxes & is pulling his fur out. We never used to have this problem, now it seems we can't get rid of them. They shit all over the patio & leave a terrible smell. Last week they ate my neighbours rabbit & left the remains in my garden. They dig holes all over the lawn & flowerbeds & they're up all night fighting/shagging like banshees. I've had enough.

One of my cats was attacked and it cost me over 200 pounds in vets bills. The scratches got infected. It took two a/b jabs.

Not trying to scare you, but you need to check your cat thoroughly.

HappyNOTdriving · 04/07/2019 21:24

That's horrible for your cat and you.

Is there a fox deterrent you could use? Like a smell they don't like or can a garden be fox proofed like you can do to stop a dog getting out?

Soola · 04/07/2019 21:24

I got rid of the urban foxes where we lived when it was just myself and my children when they were young and the foxes were a nuisance in the summer in our rear garden.

They brought in an animals heart one day and it was awful as you can imagine.

Each evening I got my son to wee in a jug then I went on patrol and sploshed the urine where they were likely to get into the garden.

It worked.

OhioOhioOhio · 04/07/2019 21:25

Soola

What made you think of that?

madcatladyforever · 04/07/2019 21:26

My old cat was a ridiculous alpha male and used to beat up all the local foxes. They were terrified of him. Since he died the little sods like to crap on my doorstep.

10psInaLooRoll · 04/07/2019 21:29

We are a house of females - apart from my cat that is. Wondering where I could get a daily pint of male pee? HmmGrin I watched these foxes the other night & they have no difficulty whatsoever in climbing over a 6ft fence with trellis on top. I saw them hop from garden to garden.

😲 Omg that’s shocking! I’ve managed to convince myself that my cats and foxes (which I can hear outside at night especially with windows open this time of year) just avoid one another. Clearly not 😦

I hope your cat is ok 10p

They always sound quite aggressive but I thought is was just bravado.

SlowLiving · 04/07/2019 21:32

They are native wildlife. Cats are not.

Whosorrynow · 04/07/2019 21:32

The foxes brought a heart 😱
what are they satanists?
I've noticed squirrels & magpies getting bolder lately too.... they are plotting against us

donutrehomer · 04/07/2019 21:32

Another vote for Male wee around your garden x

IncrediblysadToo · 04/07/2019 21:33

Oh your poor cat! Hope he’s ok

I don’t blame the fixes, I blame the humans feeding them

We have a lot around here - and will have a lot more soon judging by the amount of sex they’re having! Noisy fuckers - literally!

Any males where the fox killed the rabbit?

Other neighbours?

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 04/07/2019 21:36

Apparently you can buy lion poo if you don't have alpha male wee handy.

Soola · 04/07/2019 21:36

@OhioOhioOhio can’t remember exactly where I heard it as it was over 15 years ago but I had heard that they don’t like the scent of another fox’s urine and are territorial so I thought I’d give it a go with Irvine and used my sons because he was male!

It really did work though!

coral13 · 04/07/2019 21:36

We don't have this but it's mentioned a lot in gardening groups. Everyone always suggests the male pee - seems to work!

donutrehomer · 04/07/2019 21:37

I live in a semi rural area. All the wildlife have been shagging for months it seems. There are daily pigeon gangbangs on my garden fence.

ThisIsNotAIBUPeople · 04/07/2019 21:37

Hope your cat is OK OPThanks

Stuckforthefourthtime · 04/07/2019 21:41

Bet one of your neighbours is feeding them, either intentionally or indirectly by leaving out dog food etc - this is what happened to us. Maybe check around with photos of injuries and see if anyone is, and if so, if you can shut it down (our next but one neighbours refused to believe their adorable fox would harm anything and suggested they leave out more food to fill it up, as if that would help).

mumwon · 04/07/2019 21:45

would lion poo work (on your boundaries so it doesn't give cat heart attack from stress!) - its suppose to deter cats

CaveyWavey · 04/07/2019 21:47

We had a fox problem. I made my husband wee in the corners of the garden. Worked a treat. Have never had to clean up fox poo since.

WonkyDonk87 · 04/07/2019 22:02

We used men's wee too Grin. Out house had been empty for a while when we moved in and they'd been using the overgrown garden as a playground. Don't know if it worked, or just our presence in the house but worth a try!

MyFriendGiraffrey · 04/07/2019 22:51

Apparently they aren't keen on dogs either, if you can't get any male's urine. A friend was having a problem a while back and my dad helpfully went round with the dog a few times. He let the dog roam the garden so that his scent was left. Actually, as I'm typing this I'm wondering whether the dog may have peed in the garden Hmm However, it's got to be less awkward asking someone with a dog to come and visit than asking for bottle of wee!

yiskasha · 04/07/2019 22:57

Sorry this happened to your cat! Please have them checked over by a vet in case they've been bitten or scratched, as they could become infected and lead to other problems. Hope your cat will be able to calm down soon. What a horrible thing to happen. I love foxes but we've made a rod for our own backs by encroaching on their habitats and leaving food in bins for them to scavenge. They've become so brazen, and it's dangerous for pets and children.

Megan2018 · 04/07/2019 22:58

Get pest control in to get rid, they are a menace and some idiot local to you will have been feeding them.

Fortunately out in the sticks we don’t have an issue as foxes get dealt with if they venture into villages but urban foxes are a total pain, their natural fear of humans has been changed and they are crawling with disease.

HundredMilesAnHour · 04/07/2019 23:09

they are crawling with disease

This is totally untrue. You're more at risk of catching something from a cat than you are from a fox. But don't let the facts get in the way of some good old scaremongering eh?
