Fat ankles in middle age, inevitable?

I remember having slim ankles as a young woman, not that I paid them much heed mind you. Took them for granted of course (along with plump, non-crepey skin, lack of wrinkles, and all of those things that I miss when I notice these days) but in the last few years they just look FAT. You can't diet your ankles so am I stuck with them?

I am chunky of many other body parts too but one of the great things about my age is that i don't care about those so much as long as they work reasonably well. The ankle thing though! At the back of my ankle where it should be an ankle bone with two hollows either side is just cankley. But the front is looking jowly too. I shouldnt care so much but i do. I am pre menstrual so maybe retaining water (though who am I kidding, these are full time fat).

Anyone else finding the same? Or, even better, found a solution!

No. I have the same size ankles as I’ve always had and I’m in my fifties.

My feet have got wider though but I put that down to wearing high heels until I had children and then switching to flat comfortable shoes and boots so that they’ve spread out more!

The whole of my legs and arms have got skinny in old age. My middle, on the other hand is just growing and growing.
.

And, yes, I know a growing middle makes me more likely to get type 2 diabetes etc.

My feet have got wider too! I reckoned from hoisting this weight around for 45 years Grin. I just seem to be more cavewoman-like as I age. Hairier (for warmth perhaps), flatter feet (all the better to run from mammoths) and cankles... well maybe so rival cavefolk will be less likely to run away with me.

I'm only size 10 and I've had thick ankles all my life.

Lipz · 04/07/2019 17:23

Oh me too. I hate it. Have tried everything but they remain like fat kankles. I am really hating how my body is changing, hair in places it never was, hair disappearing in other places, sensitive skin, God I wish I never took what I had for granted years ago and when I hated my body, but looking back it wasn't that bad.

My ankles are the same and that’s post menopausal.

I always think forget weight it’s all about measurements, dress size is also irrelevant as they have changed soooooo much over the last couple of decade. I have a 25 year old mini skirt, it’s a size 10 I’m still a size 10 allegedly, I can’t quite do it up anymore.

DontCallMeShitley · 04/07/2019 17:32

My ankles are still slim, however the rest of me is a couple of sizes bigger.

StillMedusa · 04/07/2019 22:08

My ankles haven't changed and (with some food control) my weight is the same as I was at 20 (I'm 51) The distribution however is different ...it's all gone south!

DramaAlpaca · 04/07/2019 22:10

My ankles are as slim as ever, but my post menopausal middle most certainly isn't Sad

MamMamMam · 04/07/2019 22:11

Have you seen a doctor? I was diagnosed with limpodama at 29Shock

No family history or anything

sheshootssheimplores · 04/07/2019 22:12

Well I’m nearly 45 and have the same ankles and same narrow feet. I don’t think any of this stuff is inevitable. My 77 year old mum is still very slim with beautiful legs and wears skinny jeans, slouchy boots, she looks 100x better than me.
