Boring thread alert! Getting a lid off a bottle. HELP!

Finally come to the end of my beloved Snow Fairy. I've hovered over chucking the spray bottle in the recycling but concluded it's perfect for filling with white vinegar for cleaning.....but I can't get the sodding top off.
Is there a knack? I have problems with the joints in my hands anyway so might be just me, but I've twisted, pulled and pushed and can't bloody shift it. I believe Lush use these bottles across the range so hoping one of you has done it. I don't want to go in being my usual self and knacker it.

I warned you this was a dull thread!

Perhaps its not designed to come off?

Oldraver · 04/07/2019 11:26

Yes I've had a few bottles that I thought I could refill (and one which broke and wanted to decant into another) and the blummin things were fixed on

CardinalCopia · 04/07/2019 11:33

Possibly not designed to, but before I go all bull in a china shop I wanted to see if there was a knack 😁

I think it's really bad that tops are not designed to come off. I have had this, in wanting to re-use a spray bottle, but the design prevented me. Talk about being forced to have them as single use. Oh, okay, I know we are not forced to buy them, but still, it's annoying.

CardinalCopia · 04/07/2019 11:42

Exactly that longearedbat
Its the perfect size for what I need, why can't I reuse it? I have a perfectly good bottle here but looks like I'll have to buy another now to do the job. From what I've seen Lush sells a lot of products in these bottles.
I was kind of boycotting lush anyway (DD bought me this) but the fact I seemingly can't reuse these has put me off further.

Anyway, I'm going in! Heavy handed! Will report back....

I don’t know if that is meant to come off but a tip for any others is to wrap an elastic band round it.
It gives extra grip, particularly useful if you have joint problems.

CardinalCopia · 04/07/2019 11:50

Success!
heavy handed attack with a knife prised off the lid. Suspect I can only get away with this a couple of times before it becomes useless but works for now.
It isn't designed to come off by the looks of it. Shame.

@Lordamighty thanks :) DH bought me some round silicone discs that i use for unscrewing stuff generally so I tried those. It just clicked as I turned it so definitely not designed as reusable.

Rubber gloves.

It's becoming more Commonplace now for spray bottles lids not to come off this is so you don't put a different chemical in there than what is on the label and end up spraying a dangerous chemical when you think it is something safe , like thinking there is vinegar in there but you have put bleach in it..
Frustrating from a recycling plastic point of view understandable from companies litigation point of view
