Flight cancelled being business class doesn’t entitle you to any special treatment does it?

Sorry for long title. I’m just irked at my friend going on and on that her flight was cancelled in Washington and they had to get off the plane. She’s put a big complaint in the BA as, for some reason, she feels that because they had paid 2 grand plus for their flights they should’ve been put in the next flight out and if necessary bumped up to first class. Tbf she did have something major happen at home and actually needed to be back. To add insult to injury the whole cabin crew from the cancelled flight had taken over business class on their new flight. Laughing and joking all the way home 😀

So your mate's flight was cancelled and you know she has to get home for something major.

And you're bitching because she flew business? It sounds a little green-eyed tbh.

She's probably flustered and pissed off and worried.

Shelvesoutofbooks · 04/07/2019 10:48

Yes I too would expect to be put on the next flight out if I paid 2k+ for a flight that I really needed to be on. You sound jealous.

BlueSkiesLies · 04/07/2019 10:53

Yeah, you totally expect to be preferentially looked after. On the next flight for sure, and yes, bumped to first (or someone else with a higher status bumped to first) to make room.

You sound like a right cow bitching on here about your friend when she is having a shitty time!

Wow. Would she be happy about you slagging her off on the Internet when she’s having a shit time and needs to get home?

AuntieMarys · 04/07/2019 10:59

You sound unpleasant

Toooldtocareanymore · 04/07/2019 11:06

my office often books us on business class for this very reason, when something goes wrong usually the business class customers are sorted out first

Teddybear45 · 04/07/2019 11:10

Yes business and 1st class customers do deserve special treatment. Business and 1st class fares are the ones that generate profits for airlines, not economy.

user1486915549 · 04/07/2019 11:11

Of course I would expect to be sorted out as priority if I paid a lot more for my ticket.
Why wouldn’t I ?!

Passthecherrycoke · 04/07/2019 11:12

I agree with your friend. Hope her urgent situation was ok

PCohle · 04/07/2019 11:13

You don't sound like great friend.

ChicCroissant · 04/07/2019 11:16

That must have been pretty stressful for your friend and she's right about expecting a higher standard of service.

If her going on about it is the thing that is upsetting you fine, but in the circumstances she has described she is right to raise it with the company. Just tell her that she's doing all the right things and that she can update you when she has heard back from the airline.

DramaRamaLlama · 04/07/2019 11:20

Yes of course you expect to be prioritised - that's one of the perks of flying business/first Hmm

beepbeeprichie · 04/07/2019 11:21

Eh.... yes it does. Or yes it should. I’ve been stuck before when I was flying business (flights cancelled due to weather) and I was prioritised because I had a fully flexible business ticket. That’s part of what you’re paying for because it sure isn’t the toilet bag.

Inniu · 04/07/2019 11:23

Yes of course you get prioritized in these circumstances when flying business/first

nowahousewife · 04/07/2019 11:29

Depends on her airline status and what type of ticket she’s travelling on. Also if the next flight is full in business and or first the airline Is unlikely to bump a passenger so she gets on.
Also if she did not get in the next flight how did she know the crew were all in business having a grand old time? But the airline may need those crew back to be in position for their next flights so operational needs may take priority.

MaybeitsMaybelline · 04/07/2019 11:34

If my business class flight was cancelled I would be happy to go home ASAP in economy......if they refunded me my business class ticket.

letsrunfar · 04/07/2019 11:35

It's a bit like buying a 7 series BMW for 80k you expect to be looked after a bit better than the person who buys the entry level 1 series.

You're investing more in the company so expect a little more back.

Juells · 04/07/2019 11:49

I've never bought a business class ticket, but if I did I'd bloody well expect to be looked after!

EachandEveryone · 04/07/2019 12:19

It’s not that I’m bitching I just don’t understand what happens to those In economy doesn’t everyone deserve to get home asap?

OP posts:
EachandEveryone · 04/07/2019 12:20

She was on the plane they all got taken off it that’s how she knew it was the same crew. It probably was the next flight but it happened to be the next day

OP posts:
EachandEveryone · 04/07/2019 12:24

The ticket was on special offer in the sale so I’m assuming it wasn’t the flexible kind as it was a holiday not business. She’s had her membership upgraded anyway although she doesn’t want to fly with them again.

SpaceCadet4000 · 04/07/2019 14:15

The transatlantic flights are often fully booked. There probably were some people from the flight who got on same day flights because they had elite status with BA or American and/or sat on standby.

I doubt they would bump anyone to first unless they had top-level status as they have to move over all the first class people from the cancelled flight too.

In terms of economy passengers getting a different level of service, the gulf in ticket price is huge- you aren't just paying for a roomier seat.

NoBaggyPants · 04/07/2019 14:21

Everyone deserves to get home ASAP, but it makes sense that those who have paid more will be prioritised. Depending on the time of the original flight they should have been able to get them home without too much delay, even if it meant rerouting them via New York.

Which flight were they scheduled to be on, and which did they get?

TheInvestigator · 04/07/2019 14:23

I paid £12,000 the last time I flew with my kids. If the flight was cancelled then I absolutely would expect priority service over the people who had paid £500 or so per ticket.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 04/07/2019 14:28

She was on the plane they all got taken off it that’s how she knew it was the same crew.

You do know crew are only paid for their time between their scheduled flight's doors being locked at origin and unlocked at destination?

I don't begrudge them a penny or their business class seat home tbh. They were probably way over their safe working hours, not being paid for any of the time, probably had to sort out their own home life disruption when they got stranded too.

Still can't get why you think this is anything to AIBU about apart from envy at a friend flying in bus class.
