We’re trying to spend more time together. We have 6 hours while the kids are in school. I’d prefer something active/ something outside. I hate the cinema. We live in a city (NW) and I’m not sure we have time to drive anywhere picturesque. He’s been scuba diving/ hiking/ swimming/ climbing/ gym with mates a lot in the last week so don’t want to duplicate those. Has anyone any suggestions? I don’t fancy spending rare time together sat indoors!

Never mind about not duplicating those. They're obviously things he likes to do so why not? Maybe a picnic in the park? Have you got a forest trail near you?

Singlenotsingle · 03/07/2019 20:02

And yes I know you live in the city but there are trains out. We've been on a steam train this afternoon. It was lovely.

Do uou have a canal. lake, river nearby? Can you hire a boat, canoe, kayak or even a stand up paddle board?

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 03/07/2019 20:05

Any rivers near you that have river boat trips? (or near the sea of course)

Anything like an outdoor sculpture trail, National Trust properties, arboretums, gardens etc nearby?

Hmm, don’t fancy a train. It’s a bit too close to spending a day sat indoors doing nothing. I’d have liked all the activities I mentioned, but don’t want dh to be dragged somewhere he’s already been in the last few days and feel like he’s wasted his day off. Plus I think he prefers doing them with friends, hence why he did that in the first place.

How NW? Is the ingleton waterfalls trail within reach? Or rivington pike? There's a lovely cafe not ear the reservoir there.

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 03/07/2019 20:25

Ingleton is 90 minutes according to google. That’d leave 3 hours. Is that long enough?

Second a national trust outing, or failing that something outdoors like a walk or gardening then go to a pub with a nice beer garden and just relax and enjoy the good weather!

Sandsnake · 03/07/2019 20:30

Find a nice pub in the countryside nearish you. Plan a walk to said pub and have a lovely lunch there in the sun!

Are you far from somewhere like Tatton Park? Or the coast at Formby point? Personally a no-child day for us would be something like a canal walk and a pub lunch or a backpack-picnic somewhere peaceful and pretty.

If we knew the nearest town to you we may be able suggest something more specific?

Any English heritage or National Trust sites nearby?

Strawberry picking?

Theatre?
