"Taking in ironingl"

Every so often on MN, a poster asks for advice on how to make a bit of extra money, and "take in ironing" is a common suggestion. It appeals to me because I LOVE ironing and spend every evening at home while my kids sleep.

However, I have never encountered in real life a situation where somebody outsources their ironing to a private individual. I've never seen ironing services advertised. I can only assume it DOES happen, just in other circles perhaps...?

So, if you are the recipient of such an ironing service (or indeed a contract ironer) can you help me out?

How does it work? Does the ironer collect and drop off your clothes? What's a typical 'order' and how frequently - weekly? Monthly? How much do you pay? How do you pay? How quick is turnaround? What else should I know? What would make me a market-capturing ironer for hire?

Depends on what sort of area you live in to know if this works, but I work in an industrial park, we had a leaflet through out door few weeks back offering a service for men's shirts only , basically they will come around on a Monday, Thursday or Friday - either before 9 or 1-2 , may have been another time slot , collect shirts, and get shirts returned to you Monday morning ironed, you choose if you want on hangers or folded. Good few of the people I worked with seemed very interested - lots of women saying if they did women's blouses too it would help, but don't know if anyone signed up, but I do know people signed up from office across road as I see a man turn up with loads of shirts on a Monday morning, the price seemed to be £25 as I recall, it did say they would also offer a wash service -price on request, and they also did t-shirts and gym wear again price on request, seemed to be consensus here the men don't iron gym t shirts.

Wait..what.... people iron duvet covers?!

My Mum used to put them on the bed, then put the iron on an extension and iron it in situ. She also ironed socks though, strange sort!
