Slightly baffled by school taster session

Arrived at school for DS’ morning visit and there was a teacher at the door handing out packs. A mum in front of me was so pleased to see her (obviously had an older child who had been in her class).

So we all got in and sat down and the Head did all of the introductions. She introduced another teacher first and spoke for a good 3-5 minutes about their experience and what they did in the school.

She then said ‘And that’s Miss X, she’ll take the other Reception class’.

Then they showed us a video that ‘the children’ had made about going to school. It was really a day in the life of the teacher the HT had spoken about the most. Then it finished by showing all the teachers, apart from Miss X.

It was really very noticeable and I dunno, it’s making me think about all those threads on MN about teachers being driven out Confused

Maybe Miss X is new to the school. I've been at a reception class taster day where a new teacher came in just for the day to meet the children, but wasn't actually going to be on the staff till Sept.

Miss X could have been teaching a different year when the film was made, but the other teacher is maybe also the early years co ordinator so stays with that class?

The way the other mum spoke to her on the way in definitely made me think she had taught her older child(ren).

It was quite strange and a bit offputting.

I suppose so.

This could happen at ours - we have a teacher returning from maternity into year F, who taught some kids who are now going into y5/6 so parents will know her, but she’s not well known to those of younger ones.

Why is this offputting? When DD started primary the teacher had a Y2 before and was in the middle of SATS when the preparations for induction was made and only came to the Reception area on the first day of induction and a parent evening. She was clearly like a fish out of water compared to the other two Reception teachers who had taught Reception several years before.

DD's teacher was absolutely lovely. I think she was best teacher in all of primary.
