Premier Inn type chain in France

TreacherousPissFlap · 01/07/2019 22:56

As above really!
DH and I need an overnight stop while we potter down to the South and back.

For what we need (bed for the night, somewhere to grab a quick meal, somewhere safe to park the car) a Premier Inn would be perfect.

I'm also somewhat hampered in that my "English Person Abroad" Italian and German is passable, my French has not really got beyond "two beers please" Confused

Suggestions of suitable chain type places would be greatly appreciated Smile

Novotel are great ! Similar to PI.

BareBelliedSneetch · 01/07/2019 23:02

Novotel, Mercure, Ibis, Formula 1.

The first two are nicer.

sepsisandAKI · 01/07/2019 23:05

Hotel b&b good for quick stop over. Quite nice help yourself breakfasts. Cheap to stay in!

punches Novotel into The Google

Will my inability to do more than order alcoholic refreshments be a problem do you think?!

If you want to break near Le Mans I can highly recommend la lune lake here
Super clean, comfortable, welcoming and with lovely food and wine.

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 01/07/2019 23:09

Ibis and Kyriad Prestiege

PrincessMargaret · 01/07/2019 23:22

Look on Accor.com website, you can select along a route.

WhoopiGoldbergsCat · 02/07/2019 08:13

We did a similar trip 2 years ago, we staying in a lovely airbnb, room for 4 of us was only £50 too!
If your thinking of going in the summer holidays, the hotels near the main routes get booked up very quickly.

BathTangle · 02/07/2019 08:18

Try Campanile: it's a motel chain. Useful locations, cheap and the couple I have used had English speakers.

randomsabreuse · 02/07/2019 08:25

Premiere Classe, Hotel B&B, Campanile, Ibis budget all motel types - generally clean, cheap, decent beds.

Campanile usually sits with Ibis on price but quality is less good - my fave was always Hotel B&B.

Formule 1 shared bathroom facilities, ok beds.

Accor Hotels has all price points... Ibis Budget, Ibis, Novotel, Mercure approximately.

Kyriad more often town centres, can be worth a look.

YouWhoNeverArrived · 02/07/2019 08:25

I stayed at the Campanile in Calais last week and it was pretty grotty: mould in the bathroom, tiny room, tired decor. Novotel will be a better bet.

We drive to SW France most years, and as we avoid Paris like the plague we normally flit between Novotel and Mercure in Chartres and the Ibis. I always talk to staff in French they always reply in English. DH who speaks little French manages fine and is in fact driving the DCs back without me this year but it's not scared about the hotel at all.

Oh, and get a toll tag, life changing

HairyFloppins · 02/07/2019 09:12

Ace hotels as well.

BarbaraofSevillle · 02/07/2019 09:20

Admittedly it's over 20 years since I used one, but I do remember the Formula 1s being very basic (not ensuite, no staff, all fully automated, you booked and paid using a credit card and a cash machine type thing).

Obviously this was before the days of widespread internet, or low cost airlines, hence why we were driving from Yorkshire to Northern Spain and stopping overnight on an industrial estate full of these places somewhere in central France.

kramburd26 · 02/07/2019 09:26

Ibis for over-nighters. Automated check-in. You don't need to speak French.

TreacherousPissFlap · 02/07/2019 09:27

We have one of the tags chartreuser, as you say it was literally life changing Grin

Many of the chains here are in France - use a booking app to see what's in the right places. Ibis styles are particularly good value

fussychica · 02/07/2019 09:45

Ace hotels are basic but good and pretty cheap.
Agree get a toll bip and go tag, makes everything so much easier.

Comefromaway · 02/07/2019 09:48

If Formulae 1 are the same quality as the ones in the UK AVOID at all costs.

IloveJudgeJudy · 02/07/2019 10:29

We've stayed in Formule 1 a couple of times when DC were much smaller. We found them very clean and cheap. Yes, shared toilet facilities, but they were the type that were cleaned automatically after each use.

We upgraded😉 to Premiere Classe which has a shower room/toilet in each room. They were also fine. Breakfast was about €8 pp for continental eat as much as you like.

I'm sure any of the chain hotels will be fine. Have a great holiday.
