Tax help

A bit of a boring one, but wondered if anyone could help on working 2 jobs please.

I plan to apply for a job within the nhs (currently already work for nhs) that is 15 hours a week, and to top up wages with agency work.
The 15 hours a week job would keep me under the threshold to pay tax, so how would it work out if I worked a second job? Would I be taxed on anything over the £12500?

You get taxed on the second job, no matter how much it's for.

You might be able to merge your tax code but I dont know the nitty gritty, I work less hours than that.

Your £12,500 tax free allowance is the total, not per job. You can choose to allocate it all against your first job, or your second job, or to split it between both jobs, but you can't use it twice. Just phone HMRC and tell them how much you earn from each job and they'll allocate the personal allowance how you want them to.

You'll end up in the same position as if they were one job. So same amount tax free as anybody else.

First job gets a tax code allocating your personal allowance to it, so depending on level of income you may not pay any tax in that job. Second job gets whatever is left of your personal allowance and then basic rate. So one job will seem like more tax is being deducted compared to the other, but your overall position is the same as if it was one job not two.

Thank you everyone.
As long as I don’t pay loads of tax with having two jobs I think it’ll be a good move providing a nail the interview.

I rang them up and they merged my tax code so I wasn't paying tax on either job. It's worth doing that just to find out. They're very nice when you get through to them.
