Something intelligent for the DC to watch?

We're in the heatwave at the moment, DC's school is doing an outdoor project week Hmm Today they've been on a hike from 8-12. It was 28 degrees when they left and they hiked where there was barely any shade.
They were exhausted at lunch time. This aftenoon, the fire brigade have set up their pumps on the sports field and the kids are out there screaming and running around in the hot midday sun for 2 hours.

It goes against the screen ethos in our house, but as it's cool (27!) indoors and out of the sun and I'm sure they'll be exhausted I'm considering letting them watch tv all the rest of the afternoon. But I'm not sure I want them watching cartoons as they did far too much of that over the past few days.

So, recommendations for something vaguely educational for a 7 and 9 year old to watch?

Our planet.

Our Planet — or any of the other David Attenborough documentaries. We are watching Our Planet right now and it is funny in places, weird, and often downright amazing to see what the different animals do. D.A. and crew catch things on camera that very few others have done, and they cut it and D.A. narrates it to make it fun to watch. There are a few bits that some people found disturbing but my kids (5 and 10) weren’t fazed. And I don’t want to shield them from seeing the effects of climate change on all living things.

Double posted @timetomoveon!

Maybe not educational per se but my dc always loved Phineas and Ferb - and I liked it too because I liked the fact that the geeky kids were cool and there were boys who were clever and that was celebrated, their brain storming and ambition and planning etc. Plus a jolly song for me and some slightly surreal stuff plus two or three plot lines that overlap and intersect occasionally... so a fun one that’s not bad rather than overtly educational.

Both dc like watching YouTube videos of brain teasers and logic problems, plus all sorts of science experiment ones - where things are blown up, dropped, blitzed, set alight. Will need to ask them which as they seem to know all the names and I don’t!

I found ds1 (13) jumping away from tv guiltily recently and was thinking oh no what’s he watching - worst case scenarios running through my mind - and it was several videos on how to cook the best steak and garlic butter (his favourite food) Grin which I’m obviously fine with (especially if he wants to cook himself!).

Youngest ds is a massive Beano fan and their website has loads of YouTube videos that are safe to explore to see what they like and you approve of!
