Slight eyelid droop

Hi all,
I sometimes go to the GP with stress and anxiety related issues, which usually turn out to be nothing serious. As such I do worry that they think I am a hypochondriac!! so I am loathe to bother them.

However one of my eyelids seems to be drooping on one side. It's only very slight and probably not noticeable unless you look closely. But seems to be worse when I get tired. I'm sure I am not imagining it.

I don't want to be a pain in the bum to the GP but do you think I should get this checked out? I don't have a lot of other issues. I am worried it could be mild bells palsy or something that needs treatment or checking out.

advice welcomed.

Following your post with interest as have have similar and it’s also in (on?) my mouth. Photos make it really obvious to me.

1st think I was going to ask was whether you were stressed.

It's called Ptosis and it can be caused by stress.

Yes it's called ptosis and has many potential causes. Many people have a slight difference in their eyelids but if it has come on recently (can you look at some old photos to check?) it's worth getting looked at. Your GP should do some standard blood tests and may be able to refer you to an ophthalmologist.

I was born with ptosis on my left eye, had to have operation when I was 5 because the eyelid was basically closed, then had to wear a patch on the right eye (like a pirate) after to learn how to see out of the left eye, I do have a slight scar on the eyelid and you can tell my eyes are not quite the same level

I developed ptosis in my left eye and was eventually diagnosed with ocular myasthenia graves. It's not a bother and I've been discharged from the eye clinic unless it changes. I only noticed it when it went past my pupil and effected my vision which it doesn't do very much anymore.

I wouldn't worry if it's only slight. As people have said it can be caused be many things.

I can't advise (other than to say it's never a bad idea to go to the doc if you're worried) but I just want to reassure anyone with this not to feel self-conscious about it. My nephew has this and though with him it shows in photos, it's barely noticeable in real life face-to-face. He doesn't believe me and thinks I'm just trying to make him feel better, but it's true.
