DP proposed just over three weeks ago. Beautiful ring - genuinely couldn't have picked a better one myself Grin

I walked past a jewellery store yesterday and saw my ring in the window and it's half price Shock down to £1300ish.

Interested to hear what others would do? I've decided not to do anything but some family members have said they would try and return it and buy it again at the reduced price!

Every diamond is unique, the paperwork will reflect any flaws, the colour etc
For that price it probably won’t have any paperwork so I think returning it would be fine.

Would the jeweller take it back though even if you wanted to. I cant imagine they're obliged to.

Keep the one you've got. That's the one your fiance proposed to you with. Another ring cant compare to that.

See for a saving of over £1k I can be surprisingly unsentimental. Worth asking about returns policy - where's the harm? Worst they can do is say know. I think it's a bit unethical to charge so much for something when you know its going to be reduced so significantly within a few days.

The jeweler doesn't have to take it back because you change your mind. Even if he does, he could give you a credit note, so you'd still have your original ring and a credit for £2600 that you don't want. Just stick with your engagement ring and forget about it. Your fiancé obviously thinks your worth what he spent, and was happy to do it.

If it were me i would go in with the original paperwork and have a conversation with the manager.
I wouldn't risk buying a second one, hoping to do a swap, as that could go wrong and you could end up with 2 or a credit note.
During your conversation i would mention that you will be in the market for wedding rings, bridesmaids presents etc. If he has any sense, he will refund the difference in the hope of getting your return custom.

I would absolutely do this.

Really? I have certificates for all sorts of stones (my DH clearly struggles for imaginative gifts! GrinWink).

I still wouldn’t risk it.

I would be interested to know if the retailer has any policy about sale prices being applied to goods bought just before (although there will always be a ‘day before’ any sale starts so not sure how they would see it).

I think it’s insulting tbh.

It was HIS money and he spent it on that ring as he felt that was a good price. No of course you don’t return it 🙄
