Childs guitar, 3/4, seeking recommendations... left-handed?

(small for age) LH 11yo DS has learnt to play a bit (school lessons) on a battered small adult-size RH acoustic (nylon string) guitar assembled from multiple aged guitar parts.

I'm thinking about being nice & buying him a nicer guitar.

DS takes 2000 yrs to make decisions, so I'm afraid to even ask him to choose what repalcement guitar, like which one looks nice or does he want to switch to LHanded. He simply won't ever make a decision.

Any thoughts? Did your lefties find it revolutionary to switch to LH guitars, or is it fine to keep to RH since DS won't be able to decide & too much cognitive headache to relearn how to play LHanded?? Maybe one I linked to is still too cheap, I'd be willing to spend more than that. Is this hugely nicer? Any suggestions of good quality 3/4 size guitars?

We had access (on holiday) to a beautiful child's guitar a few months ago & made me realise how much better a guitar DS could have. That was RHanded & DS liked it a lot. DS is practicing a lot lately.

Cheers for any thoughts.

At 10 DS had a 3/4 acoustic guitar restrung for left hand but then went onto electric guitar which he had normally strung and full size.

Take him to a guitar shop and let him try out some left handed guitars. Give them a ring first to check that they have some in stock. They will be able to give proper advice tailored to him.

Lead guitarist in DC1's band is left handed. Some lefties do play right handed, but do give him the chance to try it properly. Having a decent instrument makes playing so much easier. Smile

Agree. Go to a RL guitar shop. That's the best way to get good advice. If you know any guitarists locally you should ask for a recommendation.

They ought to be able to steer him and help him choose too. You just set your budget, they will do the rest. Music shops don't make loads of money so tend to be run by enthusiasts.

DS still won't make a decision.... but at least in a shop with real LH guitars I could get feedback from DS what he thinks of them.

Our local music shop may recommend these. There are other obstacles to figure out. I guess in summer holidays DH could take DS 2 a far away music shop with more selection. DH (himself LHd) thinks that LH products are marketing nonsense so would wonder why DS can't just play like Jimi Hendrix managed. Two of the bigger music shops in nearest city don't list any LH + 3/4 guitars on websites. Sometimes their prices start below £150. One of the shops is open today so will ring....

Finally got DS to real shop today... they suggested he stay RH since he's used to that. They had not a single LH guitar for him to try; they are supposed to be the best equipped instrument shop in the city (!). DH said the selection was huge, including £4k guitars, but almost nothing LH'dd. No recommendation for 3/4 size, either. I guess it all helps makes decisions.
