Would you take a one year old to a pub on a Saturday for dinner?

Genuine question. It's our first so not sure. I don't think it's a good idea but DH thought it would be ok so now neither of us know. It would be around 5.30 or 6pm so not very late. The pub is family friendly in the daytime but not sure what would it be like on a Sat evening. It would be as a big family group that includes a 4 year old and if she made a lot of noise one of us would take her out ofc. I just thought it might be frowned upon and less tolerance of her noise than in the daytime. Wwyd?

No I rather shoot myself in the face

Paying for something to be hard work?

No way

Contraceptionismyfriend · 29/06/2019 16:58

@drspouse actually a pub could still be selling food but the license holds a strict times for under 18.
So they could sell food till 10pm but their premises license only allows minors in until 8pm.

Completely depends on whether the place is child friendly at night.

Yes but all the actual pubs near me have kids out by 7 so would need to go early enough to have enough time to eat.

@Contraceptionismyfriend you live and learn.

Gosh we took our children to pubs as babes in arms. Why put life on hold? It’s good for children to see positive adult socialising - it shows them the right behaviour without being told!

BillieEilish · 29/06/2019 17:27

Definitely check, as Contraception says, my experience in Devon was totally that, after 8pm no children. Luckily one landlord made an exception for me when DD was a baby, and asleep, and he knew me!

Only as a one off though...

Family friendly pub at 5:30 as part of a larger group- definitely.

Restaurant where it’s more likely couples will be enjoying a quite meal at 7:30- no.

It's to do with the pub and the law MrsPear

Would and did with both ours. W.e made it as easy as we could - hungry and tired and a long wait for food is not a good idea! I second colouring books

historysock · 29/06/2019 18:58

Yes of course! Enjoy enjoy

themartinipolice · 29/06/2019 20:28

Absolutely! When ours were little, we often got their main to come with our starters so they didn't get hangry. Or they had some bread/breadsticks while they were waiting. If your wee one likes apples it takes a long time for a toddler to naw away at a whole apple which I discovered once while at a pub meal - got an extra course out of that one, result! Colouring books/sticker books are your friend. Enjoy!

MeadowHay · 29/06/2019 22:49

Well there was a change of plan so we didn't go in the end but your answers meant we were going to! So will bear all in mind for future. Tbh I do get anxious at the thought of taking her for meals tho even though we have taken her to quite a lot in the daytime and even a few in the evening as a tiny baby. Sometimes she's fine but occasionally if she's tired or something it's just grim and stressful walking around with her all the time and not being able to eat properly isn't it?! So I always get anxious it will be one of those times, I need to learnt to relax.
