Weaning off breastmilk onto formula

I've got an operation in 11 days and I have been struggling to wean my 10 month old off breastmilk on to formula. Hes been refusing to drink any type of formula milk and I've also tried different bottles from different companies and nothing seems to be working. Any suggestions on how I can wean him off breastfeeding

You could always try the old vanilla extract trick.. Makes it taste yummy. Though obvs you have to reduce it over the next couple of weeks as it should only be for the transitional period.

How much would you add to the formula milk?

Good luck with the op! Will you be breastfeeding again after it, or stay on formula? As you might need a different approach for each case.

Basically enough drops until it smells like a vanilla milkshake.

To be fair, going back to work when baby is 1 year old should have no effect on feeding, as baby can be fed morning and evening. In fact, it already works from around 9 months old, when they are quite happy to go a long time without feeding, and might feed more during the night or in the afternoon and evening instead when their mummy is around.

However, stopping (breast or formula) milk at 1 is an equally valid choice.

Good luck with your operation hope it goes ok. Look after yourself as well, I'm not sure how big an issue it can be at 10 month old, but if you stop feeding suddenly, you might still have a lot of milk produced by your body, hand expressing can help relieve a full breast.

To be honest, if he’s close to a year I’d be tempted to just move to cows milk and a decent multivitamin if you can’t get him to go for formula. Assuming you’re happy to continue feeding you could resume a little while after your operation.

Is he a good eater? My DS1 wouldn't take milk at all when I weaned him off bf at 13 months. But he had porridge made with milk, cheese for snacks, yoghurt after every meal and that got enough calcium into him. Then he randomly started drinking milk about 6 months later!
