Just wondering really as very new to all of this. Newborn in next2me in our room. Temp currently showing as 27 degrees. Fan on high so blowing cool air but temp still showing on the fan as 27 degrees. Window open too... what can I do?? Everything online says it's too hot in here for the baby but I don't know how to cool it down!!

I had my babies in the last 2 years heatwaves and had this issue. Mostly it was either a vest only in the crib, or even a nappy only at times with a Muslin used as a light blanket when it gets cooler towards the morning.

They were fine it was me who was more hot and sweaty. Mostly I was gutted they didn't get to use all the newborn clothes they had.

Mine wore just a nappy and a thin ( like a sheet)grow bag - hard to find from new born, they were a present . Remember a nappy is worth 2 tog !

How did the night go OP? I hope you got a bit of sleep

It’s a nightmare isn’t it. It’s all very well saying ‘the baby shouldn’t be in there’ but what if your whole house is that warm?! Sleep outside??

The fan doesn’t cool the air so the temperature won’t go down, but it feels more acceptable. Surely that must be what counts? Couple of nights ago urn was 27 in my room, my 12 week old was fine in a short sleeve vest (body suit is the same thing I think??) and light tog sleeping bag as the fan was making it feel cooler.

Even though a fan doesn't actually cool the temperature, it increases air circulation and can help reduce SIDs risk - so op was right to use one.

Throw out the thermometer. Seriously. Keep it as cool as you can, monitor baby, to ensure baby isnt overheating, it will be fine honestly. Babies survive in much warmer climates.

My DD was born the warmest week of the year. We had her in one layer, midwife visited and confirmed that was fine, but I'm sure she'd be fine in just a nappy. If your bedrooms are upstairs and she's not sleeping with you, could she be downstairs as it'll be cooler?

Bodysuit/vest is the same thing when they are babies. It doesn't matter if it's sleeveless or short sleeve, this is about the same.
