What kind of drug makes this happen?

Ds is 18 and went on a 18-30’s holiday to Laganas. He purposely didn’t tell me beforehand because he knew i would worry or stop him going.
Yesterday he called in tears saying he needs to come back and that he’d had his drink spiked and ended up in hospital.
He’s on the next flight back now and I can’t wait to get him home safe.
Now here’s the story he gave me which all sounds really odd.
He went to a bar and left his drink while he went to the loo. After returning and having a bit more he collapsed and doesn’t remember anything. According to his friends his face was making some weird contorting expressions and he had a seizure. He wasn’t sick (that he knows of) Next day he wakes up in hospital and is discharged but still feeling spaced out and unwell.
Then yesterday he’s crying and panicking all day and just wanting to come home.

What on earth could it have been that was given to him?

Then apparently these two ambulance guys chuck him in their ambulance roughly and allow one friend to go with him. It’s a private hospital so they’re now demanding payment. They said he could use a friend’s medical insurance if needed so long as they get their money.
Then apparently they return to his hotel and repeatedly threaten asking for the money or they’ll ‘take him’

I emailed the hospital and said they need to send me the bill and tell me what exactly they treated him with and what the diagnosis was. I’ve heard nothing yet.

This is all so stressful! At least ds is on the next flight home. He’s learned a very big lesson in all this.

I don’t know what drug could have caused that reaction. I have seen people who are very very drunk have seizures. You can try and arrange for him to have a blood test when he gets back as some drugs may still be present in his blood, although I think most will have been gone by now.

In relation to the hospital - did he have medical insurance? As he is over 18 they may refuse to deal with you as he’s an adult in his own right. He’ll have to pay the hospital and ambulance bill. If he has insurance i’d tell him to get his insurance company involved.

He had insurance but it only covered non private cover (according to ds!) I’m sure I’ll get the full story when he gets back.
He assured me he wasn’t drunk and they weren’t having a big night out, just one minute he was fine and the next he was like that. Very strange!
