Tooth hanging by the root

Ds is loosing his first tooth. It has been wobbly for weeks but he is scared of blood so wouldn’t wobble it too much. Last night it fell forward in his mouth and I saw it is hanging by the root. How do we get the bloody thing out???
He is way too scared to let me touch it and I don’t want him to be scared every time a tooth gets wobbly in the future.
As a child I was in the same position with the same tooth and my sister yanked it out! Is there a more humane way of getting it out without scarring him for life?

Either take him the dentist or wrap the tooth in gauze and get him to wiggle it himself. It will barely bleed.

My mother used to give us cheese to bite into and the the tooth would be left embedded in the cheese!

Give him a tissue and let him waggle it out himself tell him it won't hurt but it isbetter he does it .

Wrap in tissue and twist.

I get them to show me how much they can twist it one way, then ooo and ahhh and ask how much it will go the other way. A couple of those and it's usually out.

Thanks ladies. He isgetting good at avoiding the tooth with certain foods so that might not work but is worth a try.
Ill try them all!

Get a box of special chocolates (xmas type ones like Roses and quality streets) and he will be so busy chomping that he probably wont notice it come our until it's in his mouth. My mum used to do this with me and it worked really well. It also meant I could proudly present her with the tooth.

GrandmaSharksDentures · 28/06/2019 09:26

Agree - give him is favourite food. DS swallowed his first loose tooth in a chip!

hidinginthenightgarden · 28/06/2019 09:53

Hmmm, skittles or millions are his fav sweets and put huge mouthfuls in so he has to chew hard. I’ll give that a go!

I gave my son a toffee to chew. It happened to be around Xmas so we had the remnants of a box of Quality Street and he got a toffee penny. He never usually gets toffee so was thrilled, and it got the tooth straight out. We've only ever had to resort to a toffee the once though, it's not something we do with all loose teeth.
