Nursery and Ofsted Inspection

Ofsted visited DD's nursery recently and I've just seen the report. They have dropped from 'Good' to 'Needs Improvement'.

The feedback was cantered around teaching and planning from what I can gather. Specifically, staff aren't pushing the children in their development and aren't planning effectively enough for learning outcomes.

We have never really had a problem with the nursery. Staff have always been friendly, DD has made great friends and developmentally she is leaps and bounds ahead. All great.

This report has just made me think twice about her being there. She is due to start school September 2020 and I feel like this is a crucial year in preparing her for that. I'm concerned that she might not get the support she needs and start to fall behind.

I don't know if I'm being a bit PFB about this. Obviously, at pick up and drop off we only see a brief snapshot of the day.

I'm now wondering if we would be better off reducing her hours from 5 days per week to 3. I am a qualified teacher so could plan activities/trips to support her learning and she would still get the benefit of socialising on her days in.

I just don't know if I'm overreacting. WWYD? Reduce the hours or keep her in FT for the remaining 12 and a bit months?

They will have been given clear steps for improvement and have probably already implemented changes. I would go in and speak to them about your concerns and ask what they are doing to address them. Depending on their response you can make a more informed decision. I wouldn't make a knee jerk decision.

I thjnk it depends why you send her. Is it for academic learnjng, social skills, independence, getting used to a school type structure/routine. Dd's nursery is all totally free choice which means she spends 99% of her time being filthy and in forest school but i'm okay with that because for her, she doesn't need loads of academic focus as she is starting to read and write herself. If she was behind in those areas however, i would be seeking nursery with different strengths

Personally if that's all it was I wouldn't be too bothered, there's plenty of time for that once they go to school.

Imo nursery is a necessary solution for working parents, all I wanted was for my DC to be well looked after and have fun, there's too much formality these days imo.
