At Glastonbury and I’ve just had a row with twat in the next tent

Family camping. Absolutely boiling so brought DD back to the tent to have lunch and sit in the shade for the 12-2 bit. Been out since 9 this morning around the festival.

She’s sat in the foyer bit of the tent reading her kindle when performance parent dad from next door comes back to his tent with his kids.

He spots dd and gives her a jovial “oh come on now you shouldn’t be sat in their on a tablet you’re at Glastonbury”. His kid piped up oh we don’t have our tablets do we daddy. Dad is looking at DD and says come on put it down there’s a whole world out there you’re missing

I popped my head out of the tent and said she’s not on a tablet she’s reading a book. He said it doesn’t look she is, I was hot and pissed off and said it’s a kindle and if she wants to go on her tablet that’s not really your business.

He then goes on a 2 min rant about kids on tablets missing out on life. I told him again she isn’t on a bloody tablet and again, it’s not your business. He then accuses me of being rude and says he was only trying to help and says come on DS let’s leave these two to sit in their tent Angry

They are literally camped 2 ft away from us Hmm

@VanillaSugarr the Fringe was last weekend, and Morris dancers galore.

shoesarefab · 29/06/2019 09:23

@GimmieTheCoffeeAndNooneDies ha! That’s what i just said to my husband. Glasto is just the epitome of capitalism, £250 for a basic ticket, burgers for £20 and now Stormzy performing to a sea of white middle class faces 🙈

Cunninghamsarah · 29/06/2019 09:50

What a total arse. Def post updates on his arse behaviour if you get a chance. The child sounds like an arse in the making as well 'we don't have our tablets do we daddy'. Wtf! Point out that he's missing out on life by giving you a two minute rant and not minding his own business.

'This is the most iconic moment of my life'

Confused

Although I don't suppose Morrisey will be invited back.

Al203 · 29/06/2019 10:53

When either he or you are packing to leave Glasto I hope you are going to point him in the direction of this thread so he can enlighten hisself when the festival is over.

It has lost its way since it stared in 1970 ( so I've heard) gone from more ' working class ' roots to being part of the 'London season' ( almost)
I'm sure it will fizzle out eventually and nobody will say they ever went there!

The80sweregreat · 29/06/2019 11:03

I think Morrissey is off the Eavis's Christmas card list for good!

NoToast · 29/06/2019 11:42

I like to regale DD with the story of the time I helped search in the long grass for somebody's finger that had been yanked off in a climbing the fence accident. I do wonder if they ever found it. That was probably the year the fence got pulled down, mid-90s?

Debenhamshandtowel · 29/06/2019 12:46

The audience already know about knife crime. They've read about it in the Guardian.

Grin although i know it’s not funny..

I'm not sure it was ever exactly working class. It was hippy types (middle class drop outs - I knew plenty) not factory workers and the like.

AwkwardSquad · 29/06/2019 13:47

Hah, it was never working class, but back in the day people with ordinary jobs and ordinary wages could and did go. Not so much now.

The80sweregreat · 29/06/2019 13:50

A few of my friends went to see the smiths and got very muddy in the 80s and they were as working class as you get!
However, I take your point. Its probably become more 'middle class 'over the years as the prices have escalated I guess! It's the cost of a small holiday these days if you go to all of it.

daisyboocantoo · 29/06/2019 13:59

Ooooohhh please update on twatdad

AwkwardSquad · 29/06/2019 14:31

We went to Womad once. People camping with gazebos and mini fridges, Waitrose nibbles, actual tables and comfortable chairs and wine glasses. We thought it was hilarious. Not jealous at all, oh no, not us.

Proseccoagain · 29/06/2019 15:00

One of my DGDs is called Norah... Don't think DS has taken them to Glastonbury.

Proseccoagain · 29/06/2019 15:02

Oh, that's a relief OP. You mentioned a young son. DS has two girls.

The80sweregreat · 29/06/2019 15:06

A mini fridge in a field. It all makes me smile.
Tracey ulman hit the nail with her ' posh kids do drama classes' sketch! Some of it is very fake I'm sure.

theneverendinglaundry · 29/06/2019 15:18

*Currently amused about Stormsey rocking up on stage wearing a stab vest to draw attention to knife crime.

The audience already know about knife crime. They've read about it in the Guardian.*

Intesteresting middle class fact: I've just seen on Banksy's Instagram account that he designed the stab vest.

Galdos · 29/06/2019 16:45

The aerial photos of Glasto before the crowds turned up looked beautifully regimented and organised … BUT I'd rather rip my own eyes out than spend 3 days in a field with 200,000 people's turds while being deafened - and, from OP's tale, patronised too. If I want hot sweaty crowds, I'll stick to the Tube...

rslsys · 29/06/2019 17:05

Glastonbury is nice place for all the vegans who want to forget their principles and enjoy a weekend on a working dairy farm though.

The80sweregreat · 29/06/2019 17:15

A dairy farm venue for vegans! Didn't think of that one.
When you drill it down the whole thing is bonkers really!
The presenters on bbc two just now were taking about ' the smell of the bbq sausages'
(Good job they aren't on their I pads to read this)

billysboy · 29/06/2019 17:28

Tell him to fuck off OP nothing worse than a self righteous twat

Is he wearing deck shoes ?

cheekymouse · 29/06/2019 17:37

Oo I'd have a few Peronis and call him a Pretentious feckin Hippy! Judgemental creep! Some children, especially on the autism spectrum, prefer technology. speaking from experience. He's probably on magic mushrooms and spliffs a plenty!

rslsys · 29/06/2019 19:37

To reference another thread, is he called Keith?
