Tips for Disney (Paris) in the heatwave!

QuickQuestion2019 · 27/06/2019 14:55

Right taking 2 DDs 8 and 4 to Disney tomorrow, staying in the Sequioa hotel on site. It's a special trip for us to mark us surviving 5 years as a little family since DH died just before DD2 was born.

I've bought travel fans, hats, suncream, packed water bottles.

Rides with shady queues?? Any restaurants that have good air con? Any ideas at alll? Is going to be 35 degrees and I'm worried, having spent so much money!!

Water rides. Go early, go back to hotel in midday period and stay late. You can get in 2 hours early at Disney hotels.

So sorry to hear about your DH. We are also in Paris for the weekend but just MILs. If hotel has pool pack swimming costumes. Queues can be long.

Pootles34 · 27/06/2019 15:10

It's open really quite late, as the fireworks will be after 10 this time of year I think. So do what Penguins says - go early, nap, then stay out late. I think that's best thing to do anyway - the fireworks are the best bit imo.

Sounds silly but I would consider taking a brolly or two - can be really nice to have shade.

QuickQuestion2019 · 27/06/2019 15:12

@Pootles34 yes have brollies!

The pool at sequoia is lovely we did it 2 years ago and it was very hot, we got there at opening so did the most important rides first thing when it's only residents, we'd then stay til lunch head back for lunch and pool then dinner and back into the park for the evening if not too tired. Easily did double my steps everyday that week. Bug it was fab and I'd go again even in the heat.

Yes definitely make use of early magic hour and go bck to hotel for hottest part of day . Pirates of Caribbean queue is mainly indoors depending how busy it is . Most queues are shaded . There are water fountains mainly near toilets but also by some rides .

WhenZogateSuperworm · 27/06/2019 17:20

Get to the park early for extra magic hours. Most rides have indoor queue systems, the ones that don’t that come to mind are Dumbo and the Carousel.

I would head back to the hotel at midday for a swim and cool down then go back to the park later on.

You will have a fab time!

deplorabelle · 27/06/2019 17:22

Carry face cloths or baby muslins. If hot, wet and wrap child/self with them to cool. Run sunhats under the tap regularly too to stay cool

Aaahhhbump · 27/06/2019 17:22

The Aladin display in Morocco has air con. We hid in there last year.

ramblingmum · 27/06/2019 18:40

It was quite hot when we were there last year but the caves in the Adventureland bit were nice and cool. They were also a good brake from queueing.

QuickQuestion2019 · 27/06/2019 19:20

Amazing tips thanks all!

Keep a wet muslin or tea towel in a sandwich bag so it’s presoaked to wipe yourself down with in the queues. Tiger are selling spray/fan combo bottles at the moment if you have time to get to one before you go.

Floralnomad · 27/06/2019 19:32

They have put up some water mist things in the parks apparently so that may help a bit .

QuickQuestion2019 · 27/06/2019 19:54

Damm@AustrianSnow we don't otherwise that would have been amazing!

We had rain when we went and also headed back to the hotel in the middle of the day (to change clothes and dry off!). DD was 4yo and coped well with the later nights after a quiet lunchtime.

Consider hiring a buggy and paying extra to take it back to your hotel. DD had been long out of a buggy but it was so handy to have somewhere for her to sit. Your oldest might also fit in it at a push.

Have a lovely time, we really enjoyed it.

WhiteWineAndMagnums · 27/06/2019 22:14

Book lunch in a restaurant if you can. They all have icy air con and it was blissful for us to have some time out and a sit down (also went in a 40 degree heatwave).

The 'it's a small world' ride is pretty cool inside and the queue is mostly in the shade and moves quickly too.

QuickQuestion2019 · 27/06/2019 22:58

Thanks all!

The arcades either side of Main Street are undercover and cool, also can be a bit of a shortcut to/from the entrances when the street is packed. We had to shelter in there from the rain and cold a few weeks ago so I’m jealous!! Have a fab time.

QuickQuestion2019 · 28/06/2019 06:13

Yes @vanessalightfoot whilst I'm worried about the heat it is better than rain!

Have a lovely time. We've been in August a few times when it's been similarly hot and we've been okay. In Studios there are a few water mist things - there's one near tower of terror and then there's the umbrella on the corner by the Armageddon thing. There are water fountains all over so take bottles and refill them. Most ride queues are shaded, the worst things we did were waiting for the parade and the carousel queue. The bar in the Disneyland hotel is a lovely cool refuge. Do queues for characters in EMT - they're not going to be covered either. Princess Pavilion and Meet Mickey Mouse are both completely inside although PP can be a bit warm. Remember the Lineberty app for meet and greets in Studio too - you book a slot and then normally queue for about 5-10 mins. McDonald's in the village for the cheapest ice creams.

Have a lovely time.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/06/2019 06:26

Avoid the Princess Dancing show... I seem to remember that being direct sunlight. Get on the parade route early for a shady spot.

Ricekrispie22 · 28/06/2019 06:54

The Caves of Adventure Isle is essentially Skull Rock. And within Skull Rock is a waterfall. The whole area is cool and calming and sleep inducing for the little ones.
You can also try attractions such as Pirates of the Caribbean or The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror where you will spend a significant amount of time indoors. The queues are infamously long, yet indoors. Yay for long lines! There is also Star Tours – L’Aventure Continue and Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast.
You could also watch a show like Cinémagique or Animagique.
