Cut then colour ?? Colour then cut??

I'm booked in to have a pixie cut a week today..... i've had this type of cut before so I know It suits me and I like it. I also want to bleach my hair which I have done perfectly more than once....

However I have grown (and trimmed) a lot of the bleach out these last 12 months to give my hair a break, my roots (and majority of my hair) is now medium - dark brown

Should I bleach my hair first? Here's my thinking the damage that will likely happen to the ends and mid lengths is going to be cut away. (Currently shoulder length).. last time I had this type of cut I didnt bleach it ..

Thanks in advance for any replies and advice

Most hairdressers will cut then colour.

No point in wasting product on hair that’s just going to be cut off!

The damage done to the hair you are keeping will be the same whether you cut the ends of before or after you bleach it. You will still be using the same bleach, leaving it on for the same etc. Of course, any split ends will be cut off if you cut after you bleach but if the newly cut ends are damaged they will soon split anyway.

All you're achieving by bleaching first is product waste and maybe a day or two with less split ends.

In my experience it's the other way round. I get my highlights then get my hair cut. Colour tends to be done on dry hair and then it gets cut after washing the colour out when it's still wet

Are you dying it yourself? Or is the hairdresser doing it?

The reason hairdressers do that is to save time not your hair. As you said, bleach goes on dry hair so to cut then bleach would mean wash, cut, blow-dry, bleach, wash, blow dry as opposed to bleach, wash, cut, blow-dry.

When going from long to short most hairdresser will dry cut the bulk of the hair before applying the bleach to save product but the actual cut is done after rinsing the bleach off for the sake of time saving.

The damage to the hair is the same either way.

If you are having your hair cut short, it will be easier for the hairdresser to get to your roots properly before it's cut as there'll be more hair to work with.

My hairdresser always colours first.

I am a hairdresser. I would always dry cut the length, then bleach, the finish the cut wet. My boss would have kittens if I put bleach and toner on hair that was soon going in the bin. Plus, the less hair there is, the easier it is to apply colour/bleach evenly as you don't have to keep holding back all the long hair while you're working.

Thanks everyone, I'll be doing my own colour. I always do. I'll get the cut first then. As it does make total sense with having less hair to have to faff with to my get to roots. And not wasting product. Thanks everyone I'm feeling especially daft now 🤣🤣

Mine did too, when I used to have it coloured. But then I have short hair anyway and wasn't having it bleached all over.

I'm going from shoulder length to a short pixie and bleaching it havent coloured my hair in around d 12 months so I cant wait for a drastic new look. I've told nobody I'm doing it only DP.
