Reusable swim nappies.

Off on a two week holiday. Will have ready access to the pool and hoping to get lots of use out of it! DS is 18 months old. What are my options for reusable swimming nappies? There seem to be lots of options, some cheap some v expensive. Can't make head or tail of it. What's a happy nappy for example?!

Those 'happy nappies are good option. They are basically neoprene and with tight leg parts to stop anything escaping.

If you go to a public pool, many now ask for the 2 part nappy to stop anything, which would be an insert underneath (i think happy nappy also sell), or another brand or even disposable, with the happy nappy on top as double protection

All swim nappies are only against poop. none stop wee as they wouldn't work in water!

We use a totsbots one which I bought online from fill your pants. As PP said it is just for poos. Seems to work fine but DD has never pooed in it so hasn't been fully tested!

I think some pools have rules about what you need to use so might be worth checking.

The pool we are going to doesn't have rules about needing two nappies which is good. What's the point of the happy nappy if you still need a disposable? Is that like instead of trunks?

My DS has trunks. I want just a reusable version of what he currently has which is a disposable under his trunks.

You can just rinse through the disposable ones if that helps.

We use a reusable bambino mio with happy nappy on top which has always contained any accidents.

mundaneflounder · 27/06/2019 14:16

Would the Bambino mio be ok under normal trunks? Those nappy nappies look so tight!!!

I may well resort to just rinsing the disposable ones out, but I guess they still end up in the bin eventually

The happy nappy can be used alone. Just that if you go to some places in the Uk they know that one doesnt leak on the two part system so might be worth it if you think it will be used in the Uk afterwards. For your holiday just the main part is fine. They have to be tight to stop leaking.

The double system does really work. There have been lots of times my little one did a poo in a swim nappy but the happy nappy saved a pool disaster. They are tight for a reason. It’s so time consuming if they have to shut the pool- it’s just best to be super careful, especially as you might have runnier poos than normal as different food when you’re away.

FatFailureMum · 27/06/2019 16:02

You’ll be fine with a bambino mio then his trunks especially at 18mths when poos more solid. That’s all I use for my two for holiday and weekly swim lessons. Never had an issue and so easy just throw it in with the swim suit and repack in swimbag. Much easier than disposables. Plus if it’s warm he could really just wear the bambino mio. Sainsbury’s and Morrison’s both sell (usually in hanging section at nappy aisle) and aldi often does a special on them.

Do you already use regular cloth nappies for daytime? If so just use one of those without an insert in them. We use a Bambino Mio Solo without the insert, then a happy nappy 'wetsuit' over the top - if you've already got swim shorts that you're happy with you wouldn't need the wetsuit.

If you don't currently use cloth nappies then a Bambino Mio swim nappy can be bought from a supermarket (think I saw them in Sainsbury's for about £5), then just put the swim shorts over the top.

I will say that I love our happy nappy suit, it came into its own when we were away, as it protected DDs skin from the much haraher chlorine/ chemicals that were used in the pool (France).

I have a close parent one, it’s very good.
