What non offensive foods/snacks can I eat on a train journey?

I have an approximately 5-6 hour train journey to make soon. I need some ideas of things I can take to eat during the journey without offending my fellow passengers. I can't eat in the morning as I can't bear to look at food before 12, and I can't really eat on arrival as I'm going to a concert and want to get as close to the front as possible so no real time to stop and eat. Although there are some stalls at the place I don't want to be spending time in queues.

Any food/snack ideas would be appreciated. TIA

Thank you to those who have been nice and helpful. I appreciate it. Half of MN would be gone overnight if people couldn't post about things they can Google themselves.I'm just looking for different ideas and I really don't want to bother my fellow passengers with strong smelling foods. I don't have a particularly good sense of smell and things that people have objected to their colleagues bringing in for lunch are foods that I'd never have known could be an issue. I'm studying at home at the moment so I tend to eat things like leftovers or cold seafood dishes for lunch, and I wanted something more interesting than a homemade sandwich.

It sounds like M&S is the way to go. I might get a selection of little bits and I'll be sure to avoid nuts.

@Constance1234 I haven't offered any suggestions because there's nothing I can add that hasn't already been suggested... Doesn't change the fact that people are being smarmy twats for no reason does it?

I normally take one of those Nakd fruity bar things on trains. Fill the gap but silently..

I'm the same BarbaraofSeville. My sense of smell is somewhat muted now due to a neurological issue and if I've cooked something I can never detect it afterwards and not that much while cooking. It's a blessing sometimes and also a curse.

Just two slices of bread, and a smidge of butter, not too much though butter has a foul smell, it will show you have zero social skills if you even THINK about whacking a slice of ham in there.

InsertFunnyUsername · 27/06/2019 13:19

M&S is a good shout!

Constance1234 · 27/06/2019 13:19

@mouldyhousemouldylife Oh dear you seem very angry about a few mildly incredulous posts that weren't insulting the OP in anyway. Hope you can calm down and enjoy the rest of your day.

OP apologies if I caused offence - if there is an M&S at your station, I'd recommend the 3 for £7 deli range, enjoy the concert! :)

SirVixofVixHall · 27/06/2019 13:20

Some sort of rice salad might be nice ?

mouldyhousemouldylife · 27/06/2019 13:21

@Constance1234 lol I'm not angry at all I just found it bemusing Confused so take your faux concern elsewhere.

WineIsMyCarb · 27/06/2019 13:23

Last year my mum witnessed a woman drinking water out of a squirt salad cream bottle. Envy not envy

I'm a big recycler and reuser... but the salad cream bottle?!?!?!?!?!

Chicken couscous salad in Tupperware
Flask of tea / coffee
Snack biscuit (yellow wrapper, 90s fave)
Piece of non-slurpy fruit (I'm looking at you, over-ripe nectarine!!)

ooooohbetty · 27/06/2019 13:23

Not eggs ffs unless you want someone like me vomiting on you. Nothing strong smelling. Ham and salad sandwiches, fruit, chocolate.

OK I'll leave this thread now at your command :) Enjoy the rest of your afternoon :)

Anything you like. I do sometimes wonder why people have to eat particularly stinky food but it’s not a big thing.
My big thing would be food you won’t spill over yourself/easy to eat/not creating loads of rubbish for you to share your tiny seat with.

MorinKhuur · 27/06/2019 13:25

Thank you. I appreciate it. I'll look at the three for 7 deal. A few different bits sounds nice. Especially as I am the world's most indecisive person, as you'll all have gathered by now.Grin I haven't had Nakd bars for ages so I'll get a few of those as it'll probably be the early hours of the morning before I can have anything else.

I agree with your Dh @BarbaraofSevillle. Brie smells like dodgy drains. It's disgusting.

MorinKhuur · 27/06/2019 13:26

Thank you to everyone for their suggestions. I'll probably get a real mix.

Their mini pork and pickle pies are the biz.

OP - Little Waitrose and Sainsburys (Sainbsurys at Paddington if you're going from there) also have least offensive snack foods.

If you have a Waitrose card you can pick up a free coffee/tea at Waitrose - handy if you're going from Kings Cross/St Pancras or anywhere with a Waitrose.

Honestly OP, I haven't noticed that many people being that bothered about me eating food - not that I have a full on picnic on the train! Nakd bars are a good call. You can get a sample pack of them on Amazon for a good price.

My DM in late 1970s had been looking after her dying uncle in Cornwall (Lands End) - she had to get the train home - it was too far for her to drive as she usually did from London. Her uncle's neighbour bought her at his suggestion some French bread, cheese, pate etc and a bottle of red wine and she had this on the journey home. Uncle was direct German heritage (born in Germany) so was quite usual for him.

cheese (cheddar) and tomato sandwiches
salt and vinegar or ready salted crisps
water, orange juice
milkshake
cereal bars
grapes
vodka
