What an odd question. Are you quite alright?

newmomof1 · 27/06/2019 08:15

Sitting because he likes to spend 40 mins on the toilet 😂

Sparklingbrook · 27/06/2019 08:17

Why do you ask?

ShowOfHands · 27/06/2019 08:21

The men in my life go to the toilet without an audience.

RubberTreePlant · 27/06/2019 08:23

Wait here, I'll ask them. Actually, no, I won't.

SnuggyBuggy · 27/06/2019 08:24

As long as the seat isn't pissed on is it really anyone's business?

I thought all anatomically normal men stood

plumsugarsweet · 27/06/2019 08:28

Why do you ask?

DH and 2 adult DS in this house, all stand. Although DS1 apparently "treats" himself to a sit down wee when hungover.

Bananalanacake · 27/06/2019 08:34

sitting because he is German.

ScreamingLadySutch · 27/06/2019 08:38

I once went on a sail with 4 blokes.

Why, oh why, is standing up such an important statement of masculinity? Its inaccurate, its messy, it stinks and someone has to clean it up! To stand up to pee in a pitching boat is just illogical! The pee was up to shoulder height.

In the end I announced that if people just had to stand to show how man they were, they had to swab the whole thing down afterwards.

I do ask my boys to sit down tbh

Damntheman · 27/06/2019 08:44

Shoulder height!! That's disgustingly impressive LadySutch!

My DH pees standing and sitting depending on mood. As does my DS, but given DS is only nearly six when he is peeing standing he's only just tall enough so there aren't any aim issues yet.

Sparklingbrook · 27/06/2019 09:07

Bit of a strange thing to wonder. Hmm

sirfredfredgeorge · 27/06/2019 10:59

I thought all anatomically normal men stood

Why would you think that?

DennisSkinnersMolotov · 27/06/2019 11:15

My DH sits because he also does this likes to spend 40 mins on the toilet

I can assure you he is perfectly anatomically normal, thanks SnuggyBuggy.

DS also seems to be developing this habit too and he's only 7 Hmm

DH sits, DS1(11) sits but DS2(7) is a stander. I make him wipe down the inevitable splashes if I catch him. Personally I think standing is gross but I don't really feel I can dictate how the males in the house choose to urinate!

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 27/06/2019 11:27

I'm dreading the day my DS (5) decides he wants to stand... I like my bathroom nice and clean and smelling fresh.

Lexilooo · 27/06/2019 11:37

They should sit if they get up in the night to pee or go immediately upon waking as there is a risk of fainting.

spingiscomming · 27/06/2019 11:58

Smiles

  • Had a conversation with friends about this not long ago at a party after one guy, older father in his mid 50's told his 5-year-old son off for not only having a pee with the door open to the open plan sitting-kitchen room but for peeing sitting down to the tune of men and boys stand up -

This created a discussion - So we YOLO benchmarked all the men present (we may have had a little to drink) and based on our sample here are the hypothesizes we agreed on - I'm in France - but our sample group was quite international.

-Most men over 50 stand irrelevant of nationality

-Between late thirties and 50 it was 50/50 sitting/standing with those having grown up in female-led households sitting down except for when in bar/pubs/public loos

  • For late thirties and under there was a clear preference for sitting esp among the Germans and Scandis - the Frenchies were half and half - both the Italians and the Spaniards also stood up - the Palestinians sat as did the Iranian who was present.

Most women agreed that they prefer men to sit down.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 27/06/2019 12:01

During the day - depends on mood.
At night (if waking up to go) - always sitting down - you can literally do it with your eyes closed.

sirfredfredgeorge · 27/06/2019 12:36

But sitting doesn't mitigate against micturition syncope and it normally happens immediately after peeing, so it's when you stand up. However whilst I do suffer from it, it's only immediately after vigorous exercise and not the night time/early morning one.

I grew up in an all male house, am nearer 50 than 30, and pee sitting down unless it's very inconvenient to.

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 27/06/2019 12:38

DH is lazy and prefers to sit. DS is 6 and also prefers sitting.

bourbonbiccy · 27/06/2019 12:40

Normally standing but when toilet training, our DS kept trying to grab my hubbys wee stream lol

User24689 · 27/06/2019 12:45

sitting because he is German

I'm interested in this bananalanacake because DH has a German friend who was recently rather horrified that DH would consider standing to wee in someone else's house (can't remember how this came up!) His reaction suggested this was really impolite/ vulgar and he was making fun of DH! We put it down to him being weird but I hadn't considered his could be a cultural difference between English and German men!
