Small rodent identification help?

This scampered in from the garden yesterday morning and disappeared under a sofa. Fortunately it must like peanut butter as it was in the trap this morning. What is it though? Its body was about 3cm long and the tail was quite long and was banded dark grey.

Looks like a baby vole.

Spam88 · 27/06/2019 07:39

I have no idea but it's adorable 😍 hope it was a humane trap.

Looks like a vole. Why on earth are you trapping wild animals? It would have left your house.

Vole. My cat gives me hundreds of them at this time of year.

Yes I think baby vole. It’s lovely! thethriftymagpiesnest.co.uk/2014/10/wildlife-wednesday-baby-field-vole.html

Thanks all, I’ve generally only seen voles once the cat has presented the remains to me.

So no I don’t think it would have left the house by itself - at least not alive given the cat situation.

Yes, it was a humane trap and it disappeared off into the bushes.

Really nice thread @ContinuityError, thanks for the pic I haven't seen once of those for years.

@Cailleach I really hope not hundreds ... if you shut your cat in at night, they don't impact on the local wildlife quite so much.

I've no idea. I know one thing, though.
He's gorgeous

dudsville · 27/06/2019 08:50

That's adorable! Bet it loved the peanut butter!

And we have hedgehogs - first live ones I’ve seen for over 30 years (and they really did confuse the hell out of the cat).
