Has anyone ever done a course with WEA?

Just wondering, are they any good, and are the tutors usually willing to write references for students/ ex students applying for jobs?

Basically I want to leave my job and find a different one but apart from my current employer I don't know who else I could use as a reference so I feel a bit stuck here.

There's an eight week course being run by WEA near me, on my day off, in a subject that I find interesting starting in Autumn. It's not a vocational course at all but I think I would enjoy it if it's taught well, so even if it doesn't help my job prospects at all I would still get something out of it.

So does anyone know would a WEA tutor, or leisure course tutors in general, usually be prepared to write references, even if it's just of the "I confirm she enrolled on the course and attended regularly" and nothing more variety?

Thanks in advance.

Reference depends on tutor and whether course is accreditted. Probably not for a short non-vocational leisure course. You could probably ask for a certificate of attendance. The courses are Ofsted inspected and need to meet certain criteria for the funding from Government. Tutors are qualified in their field and teaching (not always the case in other organisations such as U3A) .

Adult Education Tutor for WEA here.
All WEA tutors have to have completed and passed the Adult Ed' teaching certificate, to ensure all subjects are taught to a specific standard.

I have written references for students, but it may vary tutor to tutor.

Re the course being taught well. Make sure when you are given a copy of the course outline on the first day, that the tutor complies with what they have written on it. Doesn't necessarily need to be to the last degree, but obviously you need to receive the tuition you have paid for.

Thanks for your replies!

I think I probably will enroll, even just to be doing something in my life that isn't work or children.
