There's a cleaner here and I feel judged!!

For the first time in my life, I got a cleaner in.

I live in a small flat, so like a living area/galley kitchen etc.

I felt very lazy but got a cleaner in as I felt it needed a spring clean.

Frankly I feel judged!! She keeps asking me "just you living here?" and saying "but there are so many books!!" - yes there are and there's not much storage so there are lot stacked up on every surface etc.

plus I try to recycle as much as I can and have minimal cleaning stuff and she is baffled I don't have furniture polish or a proper hoover. I have a broom and a little foldaway super vac but she seems very sad I don't have a big hoover.

frankly I feel a bit judged. But I'd have nowhere to put a big hoover! As it is, the mop, bucket and broom have to live in the bathroom because there's no cupboard for them.

is she just being friendly rather than critical and I'm taking it personally?

Also she has used half a bottle of limescale remover and told me she likes everything to be super shiny!!

replying to my own post.

the 2 in vac confused her, she seems happier now she's actually used it.

just trying to find out a bit about you.

I think she's just getting to know you (how you live) and what she does (how she works) to see it your compatible and work out where you can meet in the middle.

it's just a one off I booked
though she is possibly hoping to make it regular

I can see why though....the oven looks cleaner than it ever has!!

I very much doubt she is judging you, it just sounds like general chat as she doesn't know you.

also, when she said "why no furniture polish" I thought "for the one tiny coffee table" - but she is probably used to posh people with actual houses! There's barely any room to store cleaning products under the sink as it is!

I opened the closet door the other day when the cleaner had been and found all my shoes tidied into neat rows. I felt judged Grin

I don't care though. Having a cleaner is the best thing ever.

(My cleaner supplies all their own equipment)

is she just being friendly rather than critical and I'm taking it personally?

Probably just making conversation otherwise it would be two people feeling super tense in an awkward silence.

RosaWaiting · 26/06/2019 15:21

I told her I was doing some work on my computer Grin so there was no need to chat. I did also say she could put earphones in etc.

Didn't know what to expect as I've not done this before. My mum has a cleaner but it's different because she has a house so they don't have to be in the same room.

she's done a lovely job but she has got through half a bottle of limescale remover and almost a whole bottle of regular generic cleaner, which makes me wonder if I wasn't using enough rather than being lazy!

its nice though isn't it seeing how everything is gleaming, I do find cleaners , when I've had them, in my parents home and even in our office , are very heavy on cleaning products, i'd say you were simply her first job that didn't have a full sized vacuum, but as you said she was happy when she used what you had.

My friend who lives in abroad about 6 months a year has a small studio in the city she used for work, rents out occasionally, like you no broom cupboard or similar so she doesn't have a brush or mop she just uses her vacuum that lives in her wardrobe, for all floors and as floor spaces are small she just uses a scourer or cloth on the kitchen/shower room floors, or uses Dettol floor wipes. However she does have furniture polish least she did last time I was there getting it ready with her for a tenant, its handy for windowsills, bookcases, etc

It’s officially way too much cleaning product

The windows have been open all evening and I can still smell it!

If I did ask her back, is it normal to say politely “please only use a little”? I have no clue about cleaner etiquette. Tbh in a place this small I’d probably only ask about once every couple of months but it definitely saves time.
