Tight calf muscles. Help please.

My son has been going to physio. For the past eight months. Kind of fed up as he went through so many different things that were supposed to be wrong with him.

We have ended up with that he has very bad tight calf muscles and this is what is causing the problems in his feet while walking and running etc.
The exercises don’t seem to be working.

Does anyone else have tight leg muscles like this. And are there any insoles for his feet that you use that we can buy to help????

I’m at my wits end with this. He is off to America in four weeks and is walking a lot while he is there. I just want to try something to help him. So if anyone has any suggestions please please let me know

Is he foam rolling and stretching? I’d be getting a second / third opinion and seeing a different physio if you haven’t already?

Oh poor him. I was suffering quite badly with plantar fasciitis last year, seemingly triggered by tight calves. I now give my feet and calves a really good deep massage every morning with moisturiser, straight after my shower before getting dressed. I also went to have a proper massage a couple of times, just for my calves, it's eye-wateringly painful, but has definitely helped.

Also my best stretch is in the downward dog yoga position, hitching 1 foot over the other calf while pressing the flat foot against the floor, hold for a bit, then swap and do a few times (This one: hips.hearstapps.com/womenshealth-production.s3.amazonaws.com/images/6581/calf_stretches_-_downward_dog_one_leg_lifted__medium_4x3.jpg?resize=768:*).

Also, are his shoes ok?

Get some orthopaedic shoe inserts from the chemist. They do a range of sizes.
I’m guessing he has plantar fasciitis. This is usually caused by tight calf muscles. He needs regular massage. Find someone who does sports massage or remedial massage.
You can also massage his calves yourself. My son has similar difficulties and I treat him. I’m trained in massage but its really easy to massage the calves. Do some sweeping movements up the leg to warm up the muscles and then get your thumb or knuckles in there and do little circular movements all over the calves. He should also be stretching the calves several times a day.

Sports massage? I have extremely tight Traps and have one most weeks to keep them loose. Works well if you can find an effective therapist. I tried a couple of people before I met my regular guy. Hurts like a bitch when they do it but you feel so much better afterwards.

Magnesium oil. Rub it into his legs every day after bath/shower and/or before bed. Brilliant stuff.

It could be that the muscles are squashing the blood vessels.

It is very painful and surgery is required to release them.

I have seen so many doctors and physio. Same thing. Everyone says a different thing. It’s very hard being so helpless. Thanks for the answers.
