Aargh! Just eaten raw chicken -what to do?

Just started a lovely lunch in a Japanese restaurant with some delicious chicken gyoza.

As I was about to finish off the last one, I happened to glance at the chicken inside, and to my horror it was pink and pretty raw looking. I have no idea if the preceding three were in a similar state.

I really really cannot afford to be ill for days - am sole parent of a small DD.

What am I best to do - make myself sick?

Nope. Too late, nothing you can do. Food poisoning is rare, most likely you'll have an episode of the shits but shouldn't be too bad.

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 26/06/2019 15:27

Did you tell the restaurant?

RiddleyW · 26/06/2019 15:28

Any chance it had minced prawn in it? Did you show the restaurant?

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 26/06/2019 15:28

There is nothing you can do, just have to wait it out. More than likely your be fine anyway

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/06/2019 15:28

Maybe it is chicken thigh meat - that can look pinkish even when cooked.

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/06/2019 15:32

Nothing you can dom but are you sure it was raw?
Chicken thigh can look v different from breast.
I've literally just finished stripping a whole chicken and the different parts look v different, and it was definitely cooked.

Tolleshunt · 26/06/2019 16:16

Thanks for your replies.

It was definitely raw, the bits round the outside were done, but the middle was raw.

I told them and they were very apologetic and waived the whole bill.

I have had a tactical chunder, but pretty sure I didn’t get it all up.

Feeing nauseous now, but pretty sure it’s psychosomatic at this stage.

Wish me luck. Just hoping it isn’t contaminated with ecoli or campylobacter.

Have a swig of neat vodka to kill off any germs Grin. That's what my DH always advises me to do in such situations.

tinkering · 26/06/2019 16:22

Neat vodka, just a swig!

I’ve had chicken like that from a restaurant before, I had been a bit iffy (feeling sickly and belly ache) afterwards but it didn’t develop into full food poisoning so fingers crossed

Tolleshunt · 26/06/2019 17:13

Ha ha, my grandma would have sworn by a large measure of whisky! I don’t think I have any spirits in, I may have to settle for a bottle of Estrella or some wine.

I swear a mix of vodka with black pepper kills 99% of bugs!

JaneyJimplin · 26/06/2019 18:25

Are you still ok??

Tolleshunt · 26/06/2019 19:05

Still ok......

Try a can of coke? It kills off a lot of things, not great for your insides but worth a try.

TheInvestigator · 26/06/2019 19:10

Omg!! I havnt heard the phrase 'tactical chunder' since my uni days.... ah, the good old days!

Sorry, I know you're worrying but that gave me a chuckle!

GreyGardens88 · 26/06/2019 19:14

Most raw chicken is fine and wont harm you, it's unlikely anything will happen

Lindy2 · 26/06/2019 19:22

I'd have a swig or two of a neat spirt. Vodka or Brandy etc. Hopefully that will kill off any bacteria.

user1471453601 · 26/06/2019 19:27

Sorry to say this, but I ate raw chicken (top layer was fine). Only one slice. 72 hours layerr, I got the worst pains in my stomach. A bit like Labour pains, rolling down from under my breasts downwards. Don't do what I did. I took imodiam. I'm my defence I was on holiday in a small Greek island with no hospital and just thought I had holiday tummy.

Three weeks later, I was still "going" eight to nine times a day.

Fortunately, a course of antibiotics (rarely prescribed for good poisoning) sorted me out.

It was the longest four weeks of my life, and I'll just skip over the four hour flight home. It's for the best.

Good luck, it may not be so bad

AgentProvocateur · 26/06/2019 19:29

You’ll be fine. My DS ate a whole raw chicken breast out the fridge as a toddler. No ill effects at all.

sonjadog · 26/06/2019 19:36

I´ve eaten raw chicken by mistake a couple of times. Nothing has happened. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Most likely nothing will happen to you either, and if it does, then there is no point worrying about it now.

Bobbiepin · 26/06/2019 19:44

Stock up on toilet roll and Disney DVDs?

Tolleshunt · 26/06/2019 20:17

The coke is a fair idea, after all, if it can dissolve limescale off a toilet bowl, or should give listeria a run for its money!

User that sounds horrendous! Poor you. I’m fervently crossing my fingers that isn’t soon to be my lot.

TheInvestigator we used that term at uni too, usually deployed by the lads in preparation to continue sinking a pint from each tap in the bar, or to drink their own bodyweight in lurid fluorescent ‘cocktails’ that had been mixed in buckets. It felt apt.

How are you OP?

Gottoloveabagel · 28/06/2019 16:54

I wondered that too!!

Tolleshunt · 29/06/2019 22:54

Hello, thanks for asking Smile I’m absolutely fine!!

DD, on the other hand, vomited in the early hours of Friday, and has had the squirts since, having not partaken of the offending chicken....

Such are the ironies of life, I guess!
