The posh one with the salt crystals in it? I used to buy it years ago but I cannot for the life of me, remember what it's called! It possibly has a French name although I might have made that up Confused

Isigny or President ?

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 26/06/2019 12:14

I think it something unusual and it began with D? I'd definitely remember Brittany or President, so it wasn't those.

Isigny is nice, president a little too refined for my salty tastes 😬 Waitrose do an excellent dupe too!

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 26/06/2019 12:16

Ooh Isigny sounds familiar. D'Isigny?

WatcherOfTheNight · 26/06/2019 12:20

Isigny Sainte - mere is the full name ,not sure if it's been known as anything else in the past ?

Xiaoxiong · 26/06/2019 12:20

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beurre_d'Isigny

Beurre d'Isigny? It's a designation of butter from France and soooooo delicious

WatcherOfTheNight · 26/06/2019 12:21

It's gorgeous though Grin

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/06/2019 12:21

I adore it

TheViceOfReason · 26/06/2019 12:36

Beurre D'Isigny from tesco or Brittany sea salt butter from Marks.

runoutofnamechanges · 26/06/2019 12:38

It could be Beurre de barratte (made with soured milk) or Beurre d'Isigny as a PP suggested. They don't necessarily have the salt crystals though - you can get them unsalted, slightly salted, salted, and with crystals. You need to look for "a la fleur de sel" or "aux cristaux de sel" if you want the type with crystals. Or pop to Waitrose and buy their conveniently translated own brand Brittany butter with sea salt crystals.

bobstersmum · 26/06/2019 12:48

Blimey I'm dieting but now I want this illusive butter on some crusty bread!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 26/06/2019 13:06

Incidentally, President spreadable butter is the only spreadable not to contain vegetable oil. Because the French don't bugger their food about.

amusedbush · 26/06/2019 13:08

In no way answering the question but the best butter is Le Beurre Bordier. I buy it when I'm in France and there are so many varieties - the onion one in particular is bloody amazing.

jackernanna · 26/06/2019 15:33

I live in France. Onion butter you say? Don't think I have ever seen this - where do you get yours?

amusedbush · 26/06/2019 16:47

jackernanna

The last place I found it was in the food market at the Galeries Lafayette in Paris. It's bloody lovely!

What is that butter called?
jackernanna · 26/06/2019 16:58

Thank you @amusedbush, I'll look out for that (although we are a lot further south)

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 26/06/2019 17:05

Beurre D'Isigny from tesco YES! I'm sure it was this one! I only managed to find it in my local store twice which is why I stopped buying it! Useless twats. The only other supermarkets we have are Morrisons and an M&S food. Nearest Waitrose is 20 miles away Sad

eurochick · 26/06/2019 17:18

@DisgraceToTheYChromosome not true. Kerrygold spreadable is the same.

rockingthelook · 26/06/2019 17:58

Try Shirgar welsh block butter, has salt crystals in it too, sold in Tesco, delicious!

TheSquatLobster · 26/06/2019 18:13

If you have Morrisons nearby, they do a Brittany butter with salt crystals. It's in a fancy black packaging & is fantastic!

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 26/06/2019 23:23

I do have a Morrisons. Well not me personally, but there is one in the town in which I live. I will have to make a trip up there next week. And maybe I should buy a butter dish too, thinking about it.

Kummerspeck · 26/06/2019 23:50

This is the nicest butter ever. I could just eat little chunks on its own although I try not to!
