House plant help!

Hi everyone Smile

How often would you water this house plant?

I got it as a freebie with no instructions. I always manage to kill house plants so 'as often as it needs it' or 'as and when' etc mean nothing to me! So far I've been watering it a couple of times a week, does that sound like too much or just right?

Any care advice welcome. I'm determined to keep this one alive because I love having plants! Tia

Hi Op.
You need to allow the compost to dry out before watering again, otherwise you will over water and it will die.
So basically, push your finger into the compost and if it feels dry, give water, if it feels damp then don't water.
Hope this helps Smile

It’s a Busy Lizzie. Twice a week might be a bit much, unless it’s very hot and dry where you are. Once a week is probably enough.

Best bet is to stick your finger on the soil and feel how damp it is; if it feels dry, then water it, if it’s soggy don’t. If it’s slightly damp you’re getting it about right.

Forgot to add, don't water it when its dormant either.

@DogbertDogglesworth what does it mean when a plant is dormant?

Dormant is usually when it has finished flowering, or during the winter when it is not in active growth. They need a bit of a rest - it's a seasonal thing.

Get used to picking it up and feeling the weight of it. That way you can tell if it is feeling rather light and needs watering.

@rollingpine thank you!
