Dreams that can never be made a reality

Does anyone else have this, where they really want something but for practical reasons it just wont happen

Mine at the moment is owning a horse. I know fuck all about horses, but I really really really want one.

To put this into perspective I live in a second floor flat and the horse would have to live on the balcony (which shows how little I know about horses)

I have other dreams like going to Disney World and while it will be tough its not impossible but owning a horse is,

OP your horse doesn’t have to live with you! Grin If you do a tiny bit of research you’ll probably find a livery yard within half an hours drive from your balcony. And it may be you know someone who’d be willing to go halves. Some people even buy a horse as a group ...

Over the last two or three years I’ve achieved some of my heart’s fondest desires - but life is so complicated that every step forward means a dozen back and I can’t really enjoy the results.

I would love to own and run a campsite. Somewhere near the sea. Maybe one day it will happen but not while my kids are settled at school and we have a mortgage to pay.

To not be in so much pain and disabled😣

But I want to do the school run on him ;)

I have just checked and there is a livery yard less than 2 miles away from me, well an Equestrian centre, which I assume is the same thing.

To move back to London. I moved 50 miles away after retiring and had no idea how boring it is in comparison. Need to win the lottery to afford it - must start doing it.

An actual dream in which I inherited 32 BILLION pounds from a man with whom I had a relationship years ago. I'm not holding my breath on this one. Grin

I had a horse on loan ( you pay for his upkeep, vets , food , rugs and sometimes tack but don't actually buy / own him) I loved it but it's expensive, time consuming and hard work.

My most recent dream is to get everyone one thats on MN and have a big party WineWineWine

Suvin · 26/06/2019 16:14

I actually agree with whoever said that some of these don't fall into the category of 'dreams that can never be a reality' at all. Two people on the thread have said they want to write bestselling novels. Obviously, you can't guarantee your own sales, but you can certainly write a novel and send it out to agents. All that takes is commitment.

The horse on the balcony is another matter, obviously. Grin

I like the idea of writing a novel. Sadly the idea of writing a novel is the only idea I have, and pretentious meta storylines like that thankfully went out with the 20th century. Grin

Me too, only in my dream I unsuspectingly purchase a plot with its own freak weather system where its hot and the sun shines alot. Even in Yorkshire. Campsite is always packed and profitable due to said weather

UnderPompeii · 26/06/2019 20:44

@Ilovetolurk now that really would be living the dreamGrin

Ferfeckssake · 26/06/2019 23:55
  • @Pinkarsedfly* Yes ! Try AirBnB for an extended length of time - live your dream. .
Urbanvoltaire · 27/06/2019 00:29

Yes I fantasise at living on the east coast of Scotland on a small farm. I'ld have llamas, a few cats & dogs, chickens and rabbits. I'ld grow my own fruit and veg & have a log fire. The weather would always be kind to the season, no gales.

Much of this is on the back of yearning for a back garden I can swing more than a cat in.

Unburnished · 27/06/2019 00:34

I dream of living in a Scottish castle with an Irish Wolfhound and being visited by Tom Hardy once a month. Blush

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 27/06/2019 00:43

Yes!!

  1. Running away to live off grid on a far off zombie proof island and being totally self sufficient.
  2. I was offered a job in China this week. 20 years ago, it would have been my dream job, but now I just can't go and a little bit of me WANTS to just hop on the plane and GO...
Giggorata · 27/06/2019 00:44

I would like to have a tiny London pied a terre.....
I nearly had it, too, if DH hadn't chickened out from bidding on a basement in Maida Vale. I was in Court that day and couldn't attend the auction. It went for around £7.000. That was in 1994. 🙄

Cailleach · 27/06/2019 07:41

Retiring.
Having my own house.
Being normal.

Squirrel26 · 27/06/2019 10:36

I have a little fantasy about making a living doing something creative like fashioning simple but tasteful jewellery from silver and driftwood. Nach, I would either be independently wealthy, or would make enough from this to fund my large-but-understated house in the country, menagerie of rescued animals and my many and varied (and expensive) hobbies. Grin

Unfortunately I have zero creative talent, zero business sense and zero commitment to fixing either of these things. Grin

Also mine, hopefully one day it will be made a reality, but I would have to kill off roughly the next 500 odd next in line to the throne to be close

Getting to the bottom of the washing basket...feels like an unachievable dream! Confused

Dowser · 28/06/2019 05:16

Here I go..I have an absolutely abnormal desire to own some land.
I’ve started looking around stately homes just to admire their parkland.
I can see myself living there, waking up to the most stupendous views
I keep looking at adverts for land. I get cross when it comes with a house. I don’t want a house, ( that’s only a plot) I want land as far as the eye can see...acres and acres of it.
I don’t want scrubland, I want proper grass and mature trees.
Verdant.
There’s a good word.

I honestly don’t know where it’s come from..we’ve visited three stately homes recently and we’ve been almost the only ones wandering around the gardens probably on account of our rubbish weather, so I just felt like I owned it...trying it on for size.

Maybe I shall just have to borrow theirs for the afternoon. Enjoy it, then give it back when I leave. At least it will have none of the headaches of getting the grass cut

Dowser · 28/06/2019 05:18

Oh and for the record, I have a tiny piece of decking at home. All that was left after extending the house twice.
To get my fix, we have a caravan in the country and we overlook a green field, which is very nice.
