If I swim in the sea when I have my period....

... might I attract sharks?
This is in the UK so unlikely to be Jaws or anything! But I am honestly wondering and kicking myself that I didn’t work out whether I was likely to be due while on holiday (just don’t like the hassle & feeling shit on hols).

no, you'll be fine. I would use a tampon though, or mooncup.

It won't make you more susceptible to a shark attack if you have a period.
It is the smell of human they detect, so a menstruating woman or a sweaty teen boy you are equally enticing.

If you were in an area where dangerous sharks are known to be then yes, swimming while on your period would be inadvisable. We don't have a big man-eating shark problem off the UK though (there are blue sharks, and basking sharks off the SW and a few other species)

Great White sharks can detect blood in the water at one drop to 100 litres

MockerstheFeManist · 25/06/2019 18:13

They also go for wee. Sharks are wee-seeking missiles.

But luckily not the ones you get in these latitudes.

Really? I thought sharks didn’t actually like humans - that’s why they take chunks out of people but don’t carry on eating, or so I was led to believe.

If you hold your hands out to a passing basking shark it'll file your nails. True fact.

Re weeing in the sea, I would be worried about those tiny fish that swim up the urethra. Probably not native to these waters though.

They don't like humans, they can smell that there is something different in the water.

But would you want to risk it???
Seriously, I’m glad I’m not the only one who has these thoughts Grin
