Do people still make photo albums?

Just curious. All my photos of my dc are on my phone/laptop. Thinking of getting some printed and putting them in to photo albums. Do people still do this? What with social media these days I suppose there’s no need to but I feel like it’s be a nice thing to have.

You can get photos printed as a book rather than having to put them in album, they look good and take up far less space. Various companiese such as Truprint offer this service online.

Yes, I do! And I'm a millennial Wink

I like having something physical, and more importantly, curated to look back on. We (as in general people, I personally am actually terrible at remembering to) take hundreds of photos all the time so it's nice to be able to sit with the album and see a selection of only the best.

I remember my cousin telling me she had over 1,500 photos of her daughter in the first 6 months of life ... Does anyone, including her daughter, really want or need that many?

Sorry for typos, iPad very slow today!

babysharkah · 25/06/2019 11:33

I do, once a year I trawl through everything and save down on to an external hard drive and then go through the gazillions of images and print the best and make an album. My kids absolutely love looking at photos in albums, occupies them for hours.

My aunty in pre digital days was amazing at albums, everything documented and captioned underneath. I have very fond memories of being there for sunday lunches and going through the albums.

I do! My kids love looking at them :D Every three or so months (longer than that is such an arse) I'll go through the photo drive and pick the best ones for the albums. I rather like doing it and I'm sure I'll enjoy having them when the kids are grown.

Yes I do, only since DD has been born though. When my grandma died I got a bunch of photo albums from her house of me and my sister as babies and I love them. I wanted to replicate that for her to have when she's older.

I used to print loads out but they take up so much space on the shelf so for the last couple of years, I’ve bought a Groupon voucher for a 100 page photo book and put the pictures of the previous year into it, like a family annual. This way, I can see the hundreds of photos I’ve taken but it’s cheaper than printing them out and I can free up the space on my phone.

meepmoop · 25/06/2019 11:46

I do, snapfish let you have 50 free prints a month so I print off 50 at a time and put them in an album

chocolatiers · 25/06/2019 11:47

Me too. I have an app called Free Prints and I get 45 a month and I do it every month. It's a bit ridiculous because I'm gonna end up with hundreds, but I love having an actual physical photo in my hand of my daughter.

MissYeti · 25/06/2019 11:49

Love a good photo album! As pp said you can do photobooks but I do both as I use my photobook as a scrapbook and put photos in the albums that wouldn't necessarily go in the scrapbook. Love having physical photos!

MrsMozartMkII · 25/06/2019 11:51

Yes.

I've made one each for my DDs from when they were young (the days before digital cameras). I used to have copies printed so they'd have some of the same pictures. I have one as well. I find it quite comforting to hold and flip through.

Oilyskinproblems · 25/06/2019 12:22

Ooh I’m glad I posted now! Useful to know you can get free prints from apps - thanks Smile

I do. I do a free prints app where I get 45 free a month, so I order every month and file them every time so I don't end up with folders of prints. I only put a select few in the albums but it's nice to have a tangible book to look at. The dc love it too.

ForalltheSaints · 25/06/2019 13:13

Yes I do, as I use film sometimes (love the Nikon camera I have had for over 20 years). Not all digital photos have been put into albums.

KevinKeegansPerm · 25/06/2019 13:19

I have the best ones printed and then i put them into an album.
My kids got out a box of photo's that were taken in the days when you had to take the film to the shop to be developed ( anyone remember those? The excitement of collecting your pics. Half of them with heads lopped off and stray fingers in the way etc )
They then put them in chronological order with names and little captions under the photo's, placed them in a beautiful leather album which was wrapped in tissue and placed in a box, and gave me it for a birthday present.
I was thrilled. They had taken time and effort to make something so lovely but effective.
I often look at it and still giggle at the captions, such as dad with hair.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/06/2019 14:35

I've several ringbinder albums, but recently did a "DD's name - the first 18 years" photobook. The best photos plus texts and dates.

Now I am thinking about turning the rest into books as well. They take up much less space, I can have copies made and I can make commented versions (I do family research) with maps, documents and stories.
