Am I right or is DH right? Bank account related

Mollypolly2610 · 24/06/2019 19:07

DH has the main account for all the bills in his name. He has 2 cheques to pay in and has trouble with his eyes and doesn’t want to go to the bank. He said I can pay them in for him but I am sure I can’t! Does anyone know who is right.

Can he not pay them in using his bank app?

AnathemaPulsifer · 24/06/2019 19:08

Yes, you can pay them in.

needsomesleepy · 24/06/2019 19:09

But you can pay it in. You just put it in the machine inside the bank anyway.

You can probably do it on your internet banking app, most banks dont need the physical cheque anymore.

You can pay them in as you are not asking for any information, as long as you have the card and the pin you can pay them in

Grimbles · 24/06/2019 19:09

Of course you can pay in a cheque for someone!?! I've done it loads of times.

isabellerossignol · 24/06/2019 19:09

If they are made payable to him and you have a lodgement book then yes, you can pay them in. You'll probably be directed to a self service lodgement anyway, they are reluctant to do basic lodgements like that at the counter anyway.

Tiredmum100 · 24/06/2019 19:09

I think you can. As long as you've got a paying in slip out if his cheque book? I often pay in cheques in my husbands name but they do go into our joint account. Don't think it's a problem to pay in, more taking it out that would be the issue?

Ellabella989 · 24/06/2019 19:09

You can definitely pay them in for him

SpangledBoots · 24/06/2019 19:10

Use your app. Or you can deposit as long as you have a card for the account.

I wasn't able to pay in a cheque for my elderly father to his account (Halifax) last week.

squidge9 · 24/06/2019 19:12

At NatWest you can't deposit anything into anyone's account but your own over the counter (money laundering regs) but you can use the machine which I think kind of defeats the purpose!

Mollypolly2610 · 24/06/2019 19:13

I didn’t realize we could do it with internet banking. Just to make things clearer they are cheques from companies made payable to him, that’s why I thought I couldn’t do it. I thought maybe I could pay cheques in at the ATM but he said I couldn’t.

Which bank? Tell him to check the app/online

NewSchoolNewName · 24/06/2019 19:14

I’ve paid in cheques for DH before without any problems. IIRC I needed his account number with me but it was all very easy and straightforward to do in the bank.

I think some banks now have mobile apps so you can pay cheques in remotely too.

NewSchoolNewName · 24/06/2019 19:16

Some banks have machines in the branches that let you deposit cheques without having to go to the counter, but I don’t think that’s quite the same thing as an ATM?

Mintypea5 · 24/06/2019 19:16

My mums puts cheques in my account all the time. My aunt insists on still sending cheques and I don't have time to go to the bank during the day / forget on weekends.

TheInvestigator · 24/06/2019 19:21

Almost all banks have deposit machines now. Go into the branch with the bank card and use the deposit machine. Or just pay them in at the counter if you really feel the need. Why does your husband not want to go to the bank? His eyesight wouldn't be an issue if he went to the counter.

UrsulaPandress · 24/06/2019 19:24

Yes you can do it for him. There is normally a place on the slip to put Paid in by.

There are no bloody bank branches near me anymore.

SoyDora · 24/06/2019 19:25

Yes you can.

Mollypolly2610 · 24/06/2019 19:25

Thanks for all the help!
