Jehovahs Witness questions

Can I start by saying I don’t want to open a debate about religion. I’m not religious, and am fine how I am.

I ‘met’ someone through a hobby, and we write to one another and text a few times a week. We don’t have much in common apart from the hobby, which neither of us do anymore, but we’re friends.

She’s a Jehovahs Witness, but has never tried to convert me or talk to me about it so I really don’t know anything about it. I think her husband is very into it (no idea if that’s how you describe it). They don’t celebrate Christmas or birthdays or anything.

I’ve bought my friend a present. It’s not her birthday, but I saw it, and wanted to get it for her. Is that ok? I don’t want her to get in any trouble.

Are there religious days when presents/cards are acceptable, like Eid cards are.

I don’t want to be offensive, I just want to be respectful, but also treat my friend. She hadn’t been very well.

They can accept presents, just not in the name of their birthday or christmas

Brilliant. Thank you.

Do you know if there’s anything I should definitely avoid?

A present will be fine. Christmas is of the cards for its pagan origins rather than as an issue with presents per se.

Thank you. As you can probably tell, I worry too much

Yep a present will be fine. Nice of you to think of it Smile
Members of my dad's family were JWs..(I say were cos i'd assume they're long dead now). I remember my bro.and were sent off to the town they lived in to deliver gifts at christmas, along with a Seasons Greetings card. As they didn't drink either tea or coffee(both stimulants) and knowing we'd got a glass of weak homemade lemonade to look forward to while we were there, we always made a pit stop at a pub before we arrivedGrin
