Would your nearly 3 yr old do this?

I'm just curious, really.

On holiday in a house he doesn't know (been to once before as a baby but he doesn't remember it), nearly 3 yr old DS opted to sleep in a different room to DH and I, rather than in a bed in the same room.

He's an independent little thing, but I'm just wondering how many other children would have made the same choice at that age?

Dd always goes in her own room on holiday

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 24/06/2019 18:19

If there's a room for dc, dc sleep in it. Its part of the reason we do in holidays as a cottage in the UK is cheaper than a 2+ bedroom place abroad. They are quite happy in their little routines and own room and earlier bedtime than us is part of it.

Thistledew · 24/06/2019 18:21

But would they do so if offered a choice?

Of course Confused

MyDcAreMarvel · 24/06/2019 18:22

Yes , why would they sleep in parents room and not their own?

4under4our · 24/06/2019 18:23

Not a chance, no! Lucky you!

PencereTencere · 24/06/2019 18:24

Absolutely. But then they've never really had the choice - if there's a room for them, they sleep in it.

Thistledew · 24/06/2019 18:25

I suppose I am surprised at his confidence and independence. I was a very shy child and would have been worried at being by myself at that age so I'm taken aback by his self assurance at times.

Yes of course DC sleep in their own room on holiday Confused

Thesearmsofmine · 24/06/2019 18:29

Yes, that’s pretty normal!

Nordicwannabe · 24/06/2019 18:33

At 3, DD would definitely have chosen to sleep with us.

She's 6 now and likes the idea of sleeping with a friend, but in practice her preference would still be
1st) us
2nd equal) a friend or family member
4th) anyone else
Last by a long way) alone

Tbf, DD has always been quite anxious. Nonetheless, I'd consider it a bit unusual for a 3yo to choose to sleep alone in a strange place. Do you have any other concerns?

LaMarschallin · 24/06/2019 18:53

My elder child certainly did. When the next came along they shared.
However, with 20 years worth of hindsight now, it really doesn't matter one way or another unless it's a problem to you.

MaMisled · 24/06/2019 18:55

I thought I'd never get our 3.5yr old out if our bed then we went on holiday and he slept in his own room. Never looked back!

Kel801 · 24/06/2019 18:56

Neither of my 2 or 3 yr olds would choose to share a room with us no matter where it was

Dirtyjellycat · 24/06/2019 18:56

Just from back from holidays with my nearly 2.5 year old. He chose to sleep in his own room, but I expected that as he does that same at home.

Stompythedinosaur · 24/06/2019 18:57

My dc would always have chosen to sleep with us, but would have gone in the other room because I wouldn't have given them a choice.

It is not bad to be independent.

CottonSock · 24/06/2019 18:57

Mine would probably pick her sisters room as that's normal for her. They don't sleep with me unless all in one room.

galaxy101 · 24/06/2019 18:58

My nearly 3 yo would, my older child would have and does too.

Kungfupanda67 · 24/06/2019 19:40

My 6.5yo and just turned 3yo share a bedroom at home, we went on a caravan holiday last week and they upgraded us to a 3 bedroom one. The boys chose to have their own rooms, and that’s a 3yo used to sharing at home, so definitely wouldn’t think it was abnormal.

PhillipeFellope · 25/06/2019 15:21

It would depend on where he thought there was a better scope for messing. Grin

WineIsMyCarb · 25/06/2019 15:24

My DD has had a double bed since turning 2 (had big-ish room, didn't see point of buying anything smaller, and already had it as the guest bed)

Sometimes I sneak in with her when DH snoring. When I last did so a couple of months ago she woke up in the night and said "Mummy will you go back to your room now?!"
😂
She's an independent 3yo too!

hormonesorDHbeingadick · 25/06/2019 15:28

Nope. She mostly sleeps well in her own bed but with a baby on the way I envision me sleeping in bed with her and newborn.

saraclara · 25/06/2019 15:35

Yep, mine would have made the same choice. That's normal, surely?

roundaboutsroundabouts · 25/06/2019 15:40

Eh? Mine has been in his own room since he was 6 months old. He's never co slept. If I ever ask him to come into our bed he says no. He loves a bed to himself. Just like me really!

MamaRaisingBoys · 25/06/2019 15:42

Given the choice mine would have slept with me but would have slept alone without a fuss if I insisted
