Hit a cat with my car tonight

Was driving home from a meal out with DCs (7&3) and DH. Cat ran out in front of the car when we were nearly home and we went straight into it Sad

No collar. Cat very much alive but clearly injured. Took him straight to the OOH vet where he's been taken in for observation and treatment. He's got a chip, so now some poor person down the street is dealing with knowing their cat is badly injured and might not survive.

I know it wasn't my fault but I feel like shit. Keep replaying it in my mind. Poor DCs were very traumatised by it all. I know I should go to bed now but I am dreading closing my eyes.

Don't know why I'm posting really but I needed to talk about it. Sad

So sad that he couldn't be saved, but I hope you can take comfort in the knowledge that he had a much more peaceful passing thanks to you stopping and taking care of him.

That is sad news but there's nothing more you could have done, and it's good to know the owner was with him and appreciates what you did for him.

Unfortunately this is what can happen when cats are allowed out, and owners are aware of the risks when they make that decision.

Someone hit one of my cats but didn’t stop. It was an unavoidable accident but you did the very best thing by stopping and getting the cat to the vet. Not just for the cat. But for the owner too. That last goodbye is so precious.
Don’t blame yourself. Flowers
