24 hour urine calcium excretion test results

I am reposting from general health in the hope someone can help.

I have previously done a 24hr urine calcium excretion test that came back low. I've now done another test and the levels are high.

Does anyone know what low or high levels indicate? I have got an appointment with a consultant, but not for while.

Could mean a number of things. Did your consultant not give any indication of what s/he was looking for?

Thank you for replying Mrs.

I haven't actually seen the consultant yet, the collections were requested by the clinic after I had a DEXA scan. I only know the results because I asked the GP receptionist, I asked if the GP would call me and the GP sent a message back to say wait for the consultant appointment.

I don't know if this is relevant or even the same thing. When I was 18, and this is 18 years ago now, I had to collect my wee for 24 hours. I was eventually diagnosed with puj obstruction (blockage at the top of the tube that exits the kidneys) on both kidneys and eventually had surgery to unblock. As a by product of the blockages I had lots of little calcium based kidney stones. So... maybe you have some kidney stones? I wouldn't worry if your gp has told you to wait until you see your consultation

Ah. Dexa scan. Sounds like, in my limited knowledge and I'm no medic, to possibly be something to do with hyperparathyroidism. That's to do with tbe four tiny glands (the parathyroids) that live near the thyroid (hence the name) as they regulate the calcium level in the body.

What symptoms have you had that made you go see the doc?

NCneeded · 27/06/2019 10:41

Thank you.

Mrs, I was referred for a DEXA scan after a low impact fracture and low vitamin D despite taking supplements. I am always tired but put that down to busy, stressful everyday life and little sleep because I have a DC who doesn't sleep well.

Look up hyperparahyroidism.

There's a really helpful group: www.hyperparathyroiduk.com/about-us

I'm not saying that's what it is. It's just I've had similar to you. I'm still in the "Who knows what's going on" camp, but there are tests you can have done and a very supportive bunch of people to help you on the way.

Thanks, I'll have a look.
