Avoiding putting baby on the floor because of dog hair!

My baby is 5 months old and unless we are upstairs in the nursery then I never put him on the floor because we have a Labrador and the amount of crap she brings in plus all the hair she looses is immense!
Baby has all of a sudden decided he hates the vacuum so I'm limited to when I can use it now (he never minded it until one day).

What's the answer?

What do others do with babies & dogs?

I love it how the OP thinks like 60 people are nuts but SHE IS the sane one 😂 some people have no awareness.

All l can think about is how minging her house must be with a hairy dog and not hoovering.

I thought this too, I can't imagine ever letting my house get in such a state I couldn't but my baby on the floor.

I often hoover twice a day with two dogs and I don’t let the dogs in the living room.
Just leave baby asleep in pushchair in the garden and hoover then.
It won’t be long before the baby is crawling all over the dog and kindly sharing their food with the dog, a bite for you and a bite for me!

I don't think OP will be back. She's not a fan of the opinions of the experienced mothers of Mumsnet. We're monsters who terrify our small children with household appliances! Hmm

I've got 2 Pointers, both of whom shed. They don't go upstairs but they are allowed in the living room. I limit the times they can come into the living room to the evenings after DS (5 months old) has gone to bed, which helps a bit with the hairy carpet situation. We also have a couple of playmats that a family member made for us. They're super easy to bung in the wash, quilted so they're comfy for DS, really bright so he likes them and we just use them on rotation for him for tummy time etc. I hoover when he and the dogs are all in bed, which means it's clean for the next day. DS couldn't give a fig when I hoover, in fact I think he quite likes the hoover, but I find it easier to do it when he's asleep. I also just have fairly relaxed standards. A bit of dog hair isn't going to hurt him, so I don't hoover every day and sometimes he does just get put down on the carpet. It's not filthy, the dogs are fairly clean and at some point he'll start crawling and then all bets are off because I'm buggered if I'm mopping the whole downstairs every 5 minutes, I can't make the dogs levitate everywhere and they have to sleep somewhere, so he'll be exposed to plenty of dog hair then! The GP told me it was much healthier for babies to grow up in houses with dogs and less chemicals when he went in for a routine appointment and I ended up embarrassedly picking dog hair off his chin in front of her, so I'm going with that. I grew up in a house with dogs and have always been pretty healthy.

I discovered, quite by accident, that the hoover sent my twins to sleep! They were about 2 months old and in the pram, quickly whipped the hoover round and they fell asleep before I'd finished.
It worked every time, feed, change, sleep time and get the hoover out, even if they were in their cots in their room with the door shut and i was doing the landing outside.
Cleanest carpets in the western world then!

Your baby will get used to the vacuum if you continue using it as normal.

Grin batshit

Nesssie · 24/06/2019 10:33

I'm absolutely baffled why she can't leave the baby safely in another room with the door closed, whilst she has a quick run around with the hoover.

Hoover once a day and let the baby play on the floor! Dog hair is not going to kill him. Put the baby safely in another room and hoover. You can't exclude your dog and you can't not allow your baby on the floor

WeedsAndMoss · 24/06/2019 17:15

You need to hoover, it doesn't take long and the more you do it the quicker the baby will get used to it, once a week isn't going to help! X

Try and put baby in the sling or pram/buggy so baby is up and away from the hoover.
