Can any dentists on here help me. A little bit of my gum has come away!

I'm only 30 but when I was at the dentist a few months ago, she told me I had early stages of gum disease.

I've not been flossing, which I know is bad, but today I've gone to floss and the little bit of gum between my bottom 2 front teeth is coming away. It looks fine until you realise you can pull it away, if that makes sense? Will this reattach itself? Or do I need to see the dentist?

Anyone any ideas? Sorry I'm freaking out a little bit 🙈

Hiya. I'm a dental nurse, hopefully a dentist or hygienist will be along soon. You may have traumatised the gum with the floss, or it may be that the attachments have been damaged due to gum disease. Keep flossing and try corsodyl mouthwash for 10 days. Gums can reattach to a certain extent so don't panic.

I haven't practised for several years but no, it won't reattach. That's what gum disease does, the bone resorbs away and the gums get flappy & loose making large pockets where bacteria hide.
I'd suggest going back to your dentist & getting on top of things.

Wouldn't advise corsodyl over an appointment with your dentist. At best it will do nothing, at worse it will stain your teeth badly.

Oh no 😭 it won't reattach? I really hoped it would 😔 I feel so sad that my gums are like this already. I will book in to see my dentist ASAP.

Oh yes I meant to say definitely get an appointment!

I'm a dentist. Yes, it can reattach, but without an examination it's difficult to judge. Keep the area clean with a soft brush in the meantime, use corsodyl or a hot salty mouthwash and see your dentist as soon as you can
