Think I’ve inadvertently killed the neighbour’s cat!

Our fridge/freezer packed up on Friday, had to chuck everything away including all the frozen raw meat and fish in the freezer.

I put it all in a black bag and put it on the patio with the intention of putting it in the blue wheelie bin, this slipped my mind and I woke up this morning with it still on my patio but with the raw fish packet next to it and completely empty.

This evening I have received a lost poster through the post from one of our neighbours. Their cat has been missing since Friday afternoon. So one full night and day.

I have killed it haven’t I?

Very doubtful.

Justathinslice · 22/06/2019 23:23

Cats have tough tummies- probably a coincidence

TheBrockmans · 22/06/2019 23:26

Raw fish is not likely to have hurt the cat. They are quite picky so would only eat food they were happy to eat and some cats eat a raw diet anyway. Besides in the wild all their food would be raw. I thought you were going to say the cat jumped into the freezer! Just check sheds/ outbuildings etc but I really wouldn't worry that you might have killed it.

hookiwooki · 22/06/2019 23:26

Friday as in yesterday? The cat probably just hasn't needed to come home to eat because it ate your freezer spoils. I would check the bag in the blue wheelie just in case you've thrown the cat out with the rubbish though.

Beingnicetomyself · 22/06/2019 23:30

No you really haven't

Beingnicetomyself · 22/06/2019 23:30

Check your she'd in case it's locked in there

ScrambledToe · 22/06/2019 23:31

Phew!! Thanks for the replies! I know nothing about cats, didn’t realise they were picky. My mum’s dogs will eat anything!!! Then throw up about an hr later 🤢

Def not in the bin hooki

Cats (usually) won't touch anything 'off' and even if they did, they'd probably be fine!

I think the disappearance is probably completely unrelated.

IAmNotAWitch · 22/06/2019 23:32

Unlikely, my cat limes her food a bit on the edge and the nastier any water she can find the better.

Also of something doesn't agree with her for any reason she simply sicks it up (preferably on a soft delecate difficult to wash fabric).

The 2 events are unlikely to be related.

ScrambledToe · 22/06/2019 23:32

I’ve checked under my patio and garage, around the over grown area but no luck! I hope it turns up!

Lol my cat is an ex street cat so may not be the norm.

Soola · 22/06/2019 23:37

My cat would have ate that then come on and vomited on a pair of our shoes then would sit nearby washing her paws waiting for one of us to find it and start retching!

KatyMac · 22/06/2019 23:44

No, @ IAmNotAWitch , Unlikely, my cat limes her food a bit on the edge and the nastier any water she can find the better. Also of something doesn't agree with her for any reason she simply sicks it up (preferably on a soft delecate difficult to wash fabric). - this is the 'LAW' with regard to cats

boatyardblues · 22/06/2019 23:50

I think the disappearance is probably completely unrelated.

Unless the cat was so stuffed from your patio smorgasbord, it couldn’t outrun a car...

Speakercube · 22/06/2019 23:54

Cats are fickle they go where the food is! So it had nice meal out at yr place and prob been sleeping it off. No need to go home if already stuffed! Grin

Geraniumpink · 22/06/2019 23:55

I bet the cat will be back by tomorrow morning. It’s probably just enjoying the warm nights and free food.

ScrambledToe · 22/06/2019 23:59

Nice boat 😱

Chances are the cats just not come in for dinner coz it found some yummy fish and didn't need to, its spent today lazing around feeling fat and happy with itself and will wander home when it gets hungry.

That or it was a fox that helped itself to your freezer spoils and the cats disappearance is a total coincidence.

Sizeofalentil · 23/06/2019 00:26

We used to use our cat to test slightly dubious leftovers Grin

If she turned down a tiny morsel then it was off.
