Why are there two photos on my phone, taken today, that I did not take?

Weird. There are two pictures on my phone camera that I most definitely did not take today. I have no idea who these people are and they were taken at 11.28 this morning when I was in my house, not on a train which is where the photos were taken!

WTF?

No idea but hope someone comes up with an answer so that I can accidentally share any of my pics!!

BenWillbondsPants · 22/06/2019 22:58

@Butterymuffin Honestly, I haven't left the house today (nor has my phone), I don't share cloud with anyone (especially not a bunch of early 20s lads that I've never seen before), they haven't been sent by what's app or messenger.

I know it sounds impossible, which is why I posted in the first place. Grin

Someone has walked/driven past your house and accidentally Bluetoothed them to you somehow as they went by?

BertieBotts · 22/06/2019 23:06

OK try this.

Instead of going through Photos/Gallery/Camera Roll or wherever you usually look at pictures, as this will be simply a dump box of every image you have on your phone. Try going to File Manager and looking through the folders until you find this picture. When you do, let us know what the folder name is that the pictures are in (if there's any personal information just replace it with or something)

Bigpizzalover · 22/06/2019 23:06

I have had this today and couldn’t figure out how they have got there. One photo was actually a group photo of me and my friends but taken years ago and a second photo of what looked like a lake I have never seen before in my life. I have an iPhone. Only me with access to my phone.

Tingface · 22/06/2019 23:08

Hmm. This sounds like a bit of a creepy glitch!

Beingnicetomyself · 22/06/2019 23:18

Have you tried checking the photo's information?

Beingnicetomyself · 22/06/2019 23:20

If you have the standard android settings it should show a map of where it was taken, time and date, and what type of phone was used (if it is a photograph, rather than a download from WhatsApp etc)

stairway · 22/06/2019 23:26

How do you know it was taken 80 miles away and could you please post this creepy photo.

MAXnot73 · 22/06/2019 23:30

How did you get the location?

Possible cloning? No idea how it happens, but it's a thing.

BenWillbondsPants · 23/06/2019 08:28

When I checked the information yesterday it gave me the date and the time of the photo and the size. And it said where it was taken.

I've just checked again and the location isn't there anymore. This just gets weirder.

Hope you find out how it's happened.

EleanorReally · 23/06/2019 09:19

how strange

EleanorReally · 23/06/2019 09:19

have you looked on your timeline?

DGRossetti · 23/06/2019 10:41

Can you inspect the EXIF data (onlineexifviewer.com/) in the photo files and see where they were taken ? Most phones put a GPS stamp into the file ....

RosaWaiting · 23/06/2019 11:08

I'm really curious about this one! hope you find out.

BenWillbondsPants · 23/06/2019 11:18

Nothing on my timeline Eleanor.

I've just tried that on your recommendation @DGRossetti - all it says is 'make and model undefined'. This is driving me MAD!

Whatsap

Suggests they didn't originate on your device ?

Do they have date & time information encoded ? If not then they are unlike to be photos taken on your device, but photo files that have had the EXIF data stripped and sent to you.

Can't answer why or where, but it might help eliminate your phone as the source.

The problem is we "need" to give so many apps permission to access various bits of the system it's hard not know where one could have sneaked a file in.

BenWillbondsPants · 23/06/2019 11:46

@DGRossetti date and time on there clearly.

My phone definitely didn't take these pics. I'm poorly at the moment (post chemo crappiness) and didn't leave the house yesterday, nor did my phone. It's just so ODD! The photos don't show on my 'camera' if I go in and look there, but do show in my Google photos.

Ah ! So they've appeared in your online Google Photos account ?

Either someone else has shared them, or Google have **ed up. If the latter - well, good luck with that. Google are just as good as Apple at customer support .....

MAXnot73 · 23/06/2019 13:02

Your OP said your phone camera!

If it's just google photos someone has uploaded to you by accident or google have made an error.

RosaWaiting · 23/06/2019 13:09

oh it's just google!

that's good then.

BenWillbondsPants · 23/06/2019 13:12

Oh it looks I've made this sound much more intriguing than it actually is then! GrinGrin Just a google gremlin do you reckon? I told you I was clueless about this kind of stuff.

I'll get my coat ...
