Nast burn, is it infected? **WARNING Pic included**

I got a nasty burn on my leg on Wednesday, treated it and had it seen to at minor injuries. When I woke up on Thursday morning the dressing had taken itself off in the night (I found it rolled up stuck together inside my pjs!) I stuck another one on it and carried on with my day. It felt hot and sore today so I've just had a look at it. It seems like it is getting red around it. I think some fluff must've got into it from when the initial dressing came off.

I've drawn a line around it. Do you think I can wait to see what happens overnight, or should I go back to minor injuries this evening?

I’d go back, it looks nasty.

Chottie · 22/06/2019 18:42

Yes, go back, it needs to be checked and dressed properly.

It’s hard to tell, how do you feel in yourself? Have they given you any advice on how to care for it?

orangeshoebox · 22/06/2019 18:44

yes go back.
it looks really sore how did you manage to burn yourself like that?

ThrowThoseCurtainsWide · 22/06/2019 18:48

Bummer! I don't really want to sit there for hours again, but I'll go.

Cling film it to get there?

wildboar they said leave the dressing on and come back on Tuesday.

It needs to be kept moist to heal with minimal pain. It looks inflamed, rather than infected, and I suspect it's sore because it's dry, and the edges are contracting and pulling on the skin. It would be worth getting some hydrocolloid dressings (Duoderm or Granuflex Extra Thin - available on Amazon) cleaning gently with warm water, and popping the dressing on, which should make it more comfortable - then get it looked at if it's still bothering you

ThrowThoseCurtainsWide · 22/06/2019 19:19

Thanks Alf, I can assure you it's definitely not dry! I've just had a shower and let the water run over it (not sprayed it at it) Have covered it in cling film as no other suitable dressings here. Will head to the late night pharmacy on the hunt for some

Poor you! I didn't phrase my post particularly well, and I can imagine it's stick. What I probably should've said was that it looks like it's trying to scab over, which will hurt like hell, for the reasons stated in my first post - the edges will pull and it'll stink like a biatch! Cling film a good call - will keep it moist while you go out in search of something else. I sympathise - they're horrible painful!

I went back in the end and I'm glad I did. They've put a big silicone dressing on it and did say I did the right thing in coming back. I am still going again on Tuesday to get it re-dressed as that's what they said to do. This dressing is a bit bigger than the last so hopefully will soak up more yuck without peeling off!

I had a bad burn on my wrist a few years ago. Once I got the go ahead from the hospital I used Savlon Advanced Healing Gel on it. I also ensured I kept it completely covered from the sun. Six months later I had no scar at all. Might be worth considering once it's starting to heal properly (but like I said see what the hospital say).

ThrowThoseCurtainsWide · 23/06/2019 18:46

Amazing, I'll look into that. Thanks flowers! I had some of the silicone Kelo-cote stuff years ago and that really helped reduce the scarring of an old injury. Not sure how effective that is for burns though.

Oh, and today it's swollen and tender around the dressing. It's already oozed enough to be visible at the top of the dressing. They said to leave it alone so I'm trying my best to resist the urge to peel it off!

I have a feeling this healing process isn't going to be simple is it?

How did you do it ?

AdaShelby · 23/06/2019 20:11

Ouch I hope it heals quickly. Did you spill a hot drink on it?

ThrowThoseCurtainsWide · 24/06/2019 10:37

Yeah, hot liquid I am a little bit very very clumsy Blush

Today's development: It doesn't hurt, but my ankle is now puffy and a bit tender. I can't tell if there's any redness spreading because of the dressing. likewise the dressing is very padded so I don't know if it's hot or not. Doesn't hurt today so I'm going to roll with it until tomorrow unless it gets significantly worse
