Would you have been happy to holiday at 6 months pregnant?

I’m currently 12 weeks with my first pregnancy and DH and I are thinking about booking a weeks holiday when I’m around 6 months. It would be in the UK and about 4 hours drive away from home.

I mentioned this to someone and she said that I was mad and that I would hate the journey and being away from home when this pregnant. Having never been pregnant before I’m really not sure if she’s right.

Did you do similar? Would you do it again? It would be good to get opinions before we put down a deposit! Thanks!

Thanks everyone!

I have had HG, but it’s finally under some control with medication and although the nausea continues (and I’m knackered!), I’m not throwing up any more. She could just have been concerned about the chances of that continuing.

To the person who suggested travel insurance - yes! Great idea!

I went to Tenerife at 6 months, stayed in a villa which was (it seemed) halfway up the cliff. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Going on holiday, absolutely. 4 hours in the car I wouldn’t do, I just wouldn’t have found that particularly comfortable. But if it was a trip abroad and flying instead I’d be all over it!!

I went to Lanzarote at 22 weeks pregnant. It was fine the heat didn't bother me I was just soooo bored not being able to enjoy a cocktail. This may be because Lanzarote was boring though!

I would say yes but I went into labour at 27 weeks !! X

Hmmmbop · 22/06/2019 18:39

Yes, any holiday really at that gestation, 4 hours away in the UK? That's nothing.

whitehalleve · 22/06/2019 18:39

I went at 7 and a half months pregnant and it was great.

jackparlabane · 22/06/2019 18:43

If you think you'd enjoy it. I went to France at 5 months, decided against camping once we found I was pregnant, and being driven between nice B&Bs was great.

By 7 months I wasn't walking much but still went away (3 hours from home) at 9 months, on the grounds I might as well be uncomfortable visiting friends as at home. There were quite a few stops by the side of the road for me to wee (wearing a long skirt to hide it), but no regrets. As long as you can lounge about comfortably, go for it.

I did it with both pregnancies. First one to Italy and second one in the U.K. but a 5 hour drive from home. Both were great holidays.

BonnieBelleStarr · 22/06/2019 19:18

I'm sure you'll be okay. I was fine until 38 weeks and then exhaustion and Aches and pains set in

timeisnotaline · 22/06/2019 19:21

I went to Australia at 6 months and babymooned in santorini at 34 weeks. 5-6m is ideal- past the sickness for most and before everything hurts all the time.

ValleyoftheHorses · 22/06/2019 19:23

No, I couldn’t go more than 15 minutes from a hospital. I had placenta praevia and kept bleeding.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 22/06/2019 19:32

Nope. I went to NY for work for 2 weeks at 5 months and walked everywhere. By 6 months I was completely crippled with SPD and couldn’t even walk to the tube.
You may well be absolutely fine, but it might be worth leaving off booking and seeing how you feel nearer the time.
