Supermarket free range eggs

Leosnewmummy · 22/06/2019 12:39

I've tried lots of different brands of free range eggs in the main supermarkets, but they all seem to be lacking taste and have wishy washy pale yellow yolks. Whats the best yellow yolk tasty eggs you've had. (LONDON) Smile

If you can get them try duck eggs instead, they are bigger and more expensive but taste much better.

Pipandmum · 22/06/2019 12:46

Have to say I don’t find much taste difference in eggs, whether they are free range, organic or from someone’s back yard. But I do like duck eggs, partly because they are like one and a half hen eggs, and I like more than one but not two!

Burford Browns are the best ones, really rich orange yolks

Clarence Court eggs are the best, especially Burford Browns.

jackparlabane · 22/06/2019 12:56

The colour is mostly down to their diet, and the floppyness/less taste down to not being fresh. If you're near Brixton try the egg guy at the entrance to Brixton Market.

Clawdy · 22/06/2019 12:57

Co op sells them, also some Tesco shops.

It's all to do with diet and freshness. The fresher the egg the firmer and clearer the white of the egg.
I keep ex battery chickens which free range in my garden. The first few eggs we had off of them were tasteless but after a few weeks of free ranging (better food and exercise) their eggs are so much nicer. I used to live in Croydon where I could drive a short distance to local farm shops but I'm not sure about inner London.

Laurajjj · 22/06/2019 21:04

I can't say I taste the difference from one egg to the next. It's all the same to me.

stillworkingitout · 22/06/2019 21:06

Agree about burford browns being good. Also St Ewe (available on Ocado) are usually nice

HundredMilesAnHour · 22/06/2019 21:07

Yes, definitely Clarence Court Burford Browns. They're delicious and have ruined me for all other eggs. I get them from Sainsbury's in Whitechapel.

JingsMahBucket · 22/06/2019 21:08

@Leosnewmummy you can find Buford Browns in Waitrose I believe.

Mavenhaven · 22/06/2019 21:08

Yep CC BBs are delicious

I feel quite sad for you - you almost seem proud of such slack thinking.

PancakesAndMapleSyrup · 22/06/2019 21:09

Clarence court are the nicest brand, Waitrose etc stock them. We've actually gone a step further and installed our own chooks into the back garden and the colour of the yolk is very much dependant on what they're fed. There are many feeds out there that also contain colourants that make the yolk appear a better colour so I do think it's just find the best tasting eggs you can really.

Obviouspretzel · 22/06/2019 21:11

@ShitAtScarbble although I sort of see you point about the being proud thing, are you really mentally inferior if you cannot perceive the difference in taste between egg types? Does that make you an idiot?

Laurajjj · 22/06/2019 21:12

shitatscrabble I feel more sorry for you that you seemingly judge someone so quickly on what eggs they eat
