Help! Peppa pig world

Morning all

Hoping you can help me.

We are planning on taking a short break with our two small children, 3 and 2 next month. They have never flown before so was considering flying to Southampton and a visit to peppa pig world. I would be very grateful for advice on the following:

Flying to Southampton stay in leonardo hotel on harbour - good choice?

Transport from the airport and then from the hotel to peppa pig? - what is the best? What about car seats?
Alternative suggestions for a short break? I would like to have the DC's experience flying etc with a view to a more luxurious break in the future! I will def consider other places if suggested. Looking for something relatively 'easy' first time round

Thanks

Where do you live? I would look to go somewhere else, even a short break to Europe. Honestly, we live about an hours drive to Peppa Pig World. It was just about worth the drive when we only had 1 and she was under a metre (free). I would definitely not drive that far to do it again and pay entry. I definitely wouldn’t fly and make a weekend of it! It’s a bit run down and not really all that great especially in the summer when it’s crowded.

I would go to Cornwall or the Channel Islands or the Highlands, enjoy some walks/beach, go to a farm park or other family day out.

As for car seats, I would bring them with you and hire a car, or search in advance for a taxi company that can provide car seats. Car seats are free on the plane so you’ll probably find it’s cheaper to bring them with you and get a hire car than to take taxis everywhere.

mindutopia thanks for that. Sorry should have said we live in Ireland. We definitely couldn't bring car seats, they are huge isofix ones that do the kids up to age 4.

I just want something fun for the dc's

I disagree about Peppa pig world, we loved it..but perhaps would not fly to get there.

MrTumblesSpottyHag · 22/06/2019 09:56

We loved PP world. Don't forget swimsuits and towels for the DC. There's a brilliant splash pad area.

tessiegirl · 22/06/2019 09:57

Peppa pig world is run down?! Hmm it's not...at all.
It's lovely there. My 3 year old dd loves it. So pretty and colourful and great fun for all! The constant peppa pig music is a bit grating but never mind!!!

We live 15 minutes away from it. Would definitely recommend Grin

I thought Peppa Pig World was great for that age but I would only go during the week as it’ll be too busy at the weekend. We were also only a short drive away though. Thomas Land is another option landing in Birmingham?
There are other places eg Crealy that are just for children and perhaps cheaper as not paying full theme park entry. You could make it a short break eg fly to Bristol, stay near beach (Brean?) and go for a day trip.

Ginkeepsmesane · 22/06/2019 10:02

If you book the hotel through Paultons Park (Peppa pig world is a part of the theme park) you can get an extra day at the park free. There are buses that go to Paultons from Southampton city centre, so depending on your hotel choice, you might be on a bus route. The serve the airport too and you could get a weekly bus ticket to save on costs?
There's definitely Uber there too and they may have car seat option.
FYI You can take your own food into the park and can hire out double & single buggies that are sort of like the tykes toy cars if that helps.
Our small ones loved Peppa pig world when that age. You can even pay to use the park early and meet the characters.

Ginkeepsmesane · 22/06/2019 10:04

Bring sunsuits and water shoes too as there are a few splash parks within the park and changing rooms.

I actually think that Peppa World is great! It’s clean and I didn’t feel it was tired looking. And if your children are under one metre then they’re free!

You should be able to prebook a cab with car seats to take you there. From the airport, there’s a railway station called Southampton Airport Parkway, which is very accessible from the airport and would be a very quick train journey to Southampton Central. Although if you did this you’d obviously want to make sure that your hotel is near the station!

I’ve stayed at the Leonardo and it was perfectly nice. Very big and used very heavily by people going to and from cruises from what I remember. But nice.

If I were you I’d actually consider trying to stay in the New Forest. You would be as close to Peppa World as Southampton city but might be nicer for the kids as there’s lots of outdoor space and greenery. Then again, you might not want to bother if you’re literally just flying in for a day.

Last thing would be that if you can choose I would try to avoid the weekend and the UK school holidays. Obviously it’s a lot busier then. Have fun!

I bloody love Peppa Pig world! It's amazing and so clean you'll have a great time. I'm not a local so not sure but I'm sure you can find a decent private transfer/taxi company. Have a great time!

Jasging · 22/06/2019 10:06

Also consider staying inThe New Forest rather than Southampton as it's gorgeous.

mummmy2017 · 22/06/2019 10:10

The beaches around this area are great, and you would be on the Trainline for many.

Sand not stone... Just check.

haveuheard · 22/06/2019 10:20

I only went to PP once despite living 15mins away. Its crazy expensive, (as unlike other theme parks you can never get a discount), when I went it had quite long queues in the PP bit despite it being term time, the toilets and food areas were dirty, kids were getting bored and parents cross because of the queues. Hellish. Just like any theme park really.

There are so many lovely things to do in this area - unless you are loaded and your kids are PP obsessed then there are better things to do.

If you really want to go then as someone said there is a Premier Inn or similar just outside PP world. Then you can get one trip from the airport so only have to sort out one cab journey with car seats, although I think you will struggle to find a company that will provide car seats for children that young rather than HBB.

soulrunner · 22/06/2019 10:37

My kids love paultons park albeit they’re in the main bit now rather than PP world. There’s actually tonnes to do for kids round there so you could do that and then spend some time in the New Forest, Moors Valley, Poole beaches, Farmer Palmers, monkey world, brown sea island etc.

Horatiosmum · 22/06/2019 12:20

It is so worth it, we live a 3 hour drive away from Pepper Pig World and have just come back from a weekend there, we stayed in the hotel right by the park (although a 20 minute walk down the drive but it was nice) the park is wonderful and clean and just like new, all the staff looked happy to be there and the dinosaur bit is fabulous too. I would definitely say it's worth the trip, the new forest is beautiful and there are lots of other things to do locally that our toddler loved. I would say avoid flying because getting about without a car can be a pain but if you really want to fly then hire a car (not sure if you can hire car seats though) but if you can get the ferry and drive over and stay in a poultons park recommended hotel, make that hotel your base and enjoy Stone Henge (we got a bit of heratige in while the kids ran around doing handstands lol) or the other local attractions (Monkey World if ace!) as well as Pepper Pig World that would be easier than having to get transport everywhere. What ever you choose definitely go and do it, our babies are only small for a short time so get as many of these adventures in as you can!!!

Chucky3gg · 22/06/2019 12:42

Can't help with advice on hotels etc but what I will say is make sure you leave before the closing time, as we once made the mistake of leaving with everyone else and it was a free for all in the car park, took us about 45 minutes to battle our way out and saw a few incidents almost end in a fight!

Chucky3gg · 22/06/2019 12:44

That said, it was a busy summer weekend, maybe not as bad on a weekday.

Tessabelle74 · 22/06/2019 14:36

We LOVED Peppa Pig World and have been twice. I'd suggest coming over for Christmas, after 10 years of excursions for Christmas it was hands down the best when we went last year
