Are fans dangerous? Which one should I buy?

I have 2 DC and we live in a mid terrace house. It's honestly like a sauna in here. It just retains heat so well (too well!!) and even with windows open a little at night, my DC's bedrooms are just roasting.

I need to buy them each a fan. I don't have the funds for bladeless ones. Are the normal ones dangerous to leave on in their bedrooms overnight?

I wondered upon seeing the title if you were Korean Smile the bladed ones will be fine in bedrooms overnight. The cages are pretty secure to protect the blades and you can always use extra cable ties if you're worried about them getting in anyway.

You don’t need to leave on overnight whilst they’re sleeping.

That has good reviews and is cheap.

You don’t need to leave on overnight whilst they’re sleeping.

DD's room has been as hot as 25 degrees overnight and we've not even had that hot weather yet. She's sleeping in only a nappy but is still really sweaty. Her room is next to the cupboard with the hot water tank in which we think is contributing to the issue. If we don't leave the fan on, how else do we cool her room?

That fan looks great though, thank you.

We have tower fans that have a timer on, so they switch off after the set period. From argos last year about £30 but thought I would share this information

I always worry about their hair getting sucked in. Can that actually happen or have I completely made that up?? 🙈

Could you get ceiling fans instead OP? They are a bit more expensive, but I love the one I have in my bedroom and wouldn't be without one now

PFB2 · 22/06/2019 07:46

Unfortunately I can't really afford ceiling fans just now.

Other things you can try to cool the house down are keeping everything closed up during the day (windows and curtains/blinds shut), and only opening windows once the air outside is cooler. If you've got a loft hatch then opening that at night can really help.

eternalopt · 22/06/2019 09:54

We bought jml artic air fans for our kids last year. Nothing to catch anything in and a cold water tank to help cool the air down rather than just pushing warm air around. Groovy lights too! Cheap here https://www.jtf.com/jml-arctic-air-cooler.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjwo7foBRD8ARIsAHTy2wntknUp2A3UMGNgT5GVCUXxxvyG5F1lofLgmO05oxkAHx3b0SS6DwaAoLxEALww_wcB

Bladed fans don't suck things in. My kids have had them in their rooms for years. My issue is with my loony nearly 12 year old building structures to arrange the fan on so that it's virtually on his face instead of standing on the floor 30 cm from the bed as it should be... They've had them since babyhood though and no incidents despite dc3 being 3/4 spider monkey as a tot.

anitagreen · 22/06/2019 10:04

We didn't buy a fan for two years as was worried about the kids bothering it, the first few days they kept singing into it and touching it it's been a month now and they're bored of it and it's been a god send Grin

greenchilly123 · 22/06/2019 13:02

Fans are fine. We have a cheapie off amazon and in this weather we keep it on all night

Pinkmouse6 · 22/06/2019 13:06

They’re fine. I was pregnant during last years heatwave and had ours running 24/7 Grin.

drspouse · 22/06/2019 13:10

People in hotter countries have them on all the time, don't panic.
